Description

The Associate Vice President for Philanthropy oversees key fundraising functions and manages a portfolio of major giving prospects. In addition, this position serves as campaign manager and assists the Vice President in the development and execution of all fundraising activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Supervision and Management: oversees key philanthropy functions, which will initially include major giving, corporate and foundation giving, advancement services and donor relations.

Supervise staff colleagues in these roles by setting performance expectations and working with them to ensure that these expectations are met.
Mentor staff colleagues in these roles and work to provide them with opportunities for professional growth and development.
Oversee the recruitment of new staff colleagues for these roles as turnover occurs.
Work with the director of advancement services to develop protocols for tracking key metrics, including number of proposals delivered, length of time between gift solicitation and close and related benchmarks of a healthy major giving program.

Fundraising: manages a portfolio of 80 to 100 major giving prospects.

Complete six to eight donor visits per month.
Create prospect solicitation strategies.

Campaign Management: has operational management responsibility for capital and comprehensive campaigns.

Assists the Vice President with all aspects of campaign planning.
Tracks campaign progress.
Attends all campaign committee meetings.

Philanthropy Leadership: supports and assists the Vice President with the development and execution of fundraising activities.

Assists with setting annual and long-term goals and identifying the most effective means for achieving them.
Works closely with colleagues to ensure that all philanthropy functions are carefully coordinated.
Serves as Acting Vice President in the Vice President’s absence.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred

Required Experience:

At least eight years of experience in fundraising and philanthropy.
At least three years of supervisory experience.
Familiarity with high education, especially in a liberal arts/small university setting preferred.

Competency:

Impeccable written and verbal communication skills
Creative thought, collaborative spirit, and outstanding organizational and leadership skills
Computer skills and willingness to learn Raiser’s Edge and other College databases
Ability to travel locally and nationally, when needed
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Verifiable track record of successful gift solicitation
