Main areas of responsibility

Raising the money

Building relationships

Build robust and dynamic relationships with Greenpeace supporters, both personally and with the wider organisation.
Develop and deliver bespoke cultivation strategies for donors and prospects to maximise their giving.
Aim to spend the majority of their time in contact or communication with donors and prospects.
Attend or facilitate regular donor meetings.
Build strong internal relationships with key programme staff.

Asking for gifts

Identify areas of Greenpeace’s work most likely to engage donors and prospects according to their particular areas of interest or motivations.
Make face-to-face, telephone, and written asks for support according to what will maximise the gift for each donor.
Balance demand for gifts to the global capital campaign, as well as other unrestricted and project-specific gifts for Greenpeace’s work.
With the support of the Communications Officer, develop bespoke major gift proposals.

Thanking and stewardship

Create bespoke acknowledgement and stewardship plans for major donors, with the support of the Communications Officer, and including directing communications from other people in the organisation where required.

Prospecting and research

Attend regular major gift prospecting meetings and contribute to strategy discussions and donor clinics.
Take on appropriate prospects and conduct additional research as required to prepare fundraising approaches.

Team working

Support the rest of the Major Gifts Team and contribute to the development of an ongoing strategy to increase overall income from major gifts.
Circulate key learnings from each donor meeting and share successes and challenges with the rest of the team to build collective knowledge and experience.
Work with global colleagues working on the capital campaign in different countries to share learnings, expertise, and resources.

Budgets and reporting

Work with the rest of the team to set and monitor annual budgets for major gifts.
Be responsible for delivering against targets for your portfolio of donors.

General responsibilities

Attend and report back on Greenpeace meetings to ensure the Key Relationship Team spots opportunities and gets the required information on programmatic work.
Maintain a working knowledge of the Greenpeace supporter database, updating records and solicitation plans for donors in your portfolio.
Make effective use of areas of individual expertise, knowledge, and experience to contribute to the success of teamwork.

Other

Deputise for the Head of Individual Major Gifts when required.
Any other duty, as appropriate to the post and as delegated by your line manager.

Person Specification
Major gift fundraising experience

At least two years’ experience of working within major gift fundraising, including closing significant gifts.
Experience managing a mixed portfolio of donors and prospects.
An understanding of the principles of relationship fundraising/stewardship.
Experience of working with/towards budgets and financial targets.
Either experience of working on a major capital campaign, or of working within a complex global organisation, or both.

Job specific competencies

Evidence of excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, including managing supporter expectations and responding to difficult questions or objections.
Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately to different audiences, e.g., tailoring your approach and manner of communication.
Proven ability to process and communicate detailed information and present the key facts and figures, both verbally and in writing.
Strong ability to build robust interpersonal relationships with supporters and staff.
Ability to work closely with campaign teams and other non-fundraising staff who have different priorities and ways of working.
