Mercy Home for Children a nonprofit agency providing care & compassion to the intellectual and developmental disabled adult population is looking to hire a Director of Psychological Services to join its Residential team.

Under the direction of the Sr. Executive Vice President of Operations the Director of Psychological Services is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction in the areas of psychology in support of the organization’s mission and goals. Guides the Sr. Executive VP of Operations and Director of Nursing regarding organizational stance toward psychological issues and best practices. Works collaboratively with the Directors, Managers, and clinicians in the Agency’s programs to ensure the development and implementation of appropriate psychological support programs and services for the individuals served, per the Agencies mission, philosophy and policies, and OPW/DD’s regulatory guidelines. Responds to psychological crisis calls; assessing individuals and directing program staff on needed safeguards and further treatment. Represents the Agency by promoting and modeling the mission and core values of the Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Home.

Essential Functions:

Ensure participation in annual and semi-annual treatment team meetings scheduled at each facility to collaborate with the team regarding the psychological status of individuals, as needed.
Ensure that all required evaluations, plans, and programs are written, updated and reviewed in accordance with OPWDD regulations. • Conduct behavioral observations, diagnostic interviews, and diagnostic testing as needed.
Provide ongoing training and oversight to Behavior Specialists and Mentors through regular supervision of their work; complete performance evaluations.
Facilitate the sexuality assessments for people who are new to receiving services or may have had a change in their ability to consent.
Assess and determine an individuals’ ability to self-consent to medical procedures and treatment; provide documentation of outcome.
Consult with Mental Health professionals who deliver services to individuals related to mental health, behavioral and medication issues.
Assist in evaluation and facilitating psychiatric hospitalization of individuals in crisis. • Be available for emergency consultations, such as the potential for suicide or other sensitive situations involving individuals we serve.
Act as part of the support team for individuals and programs experiencing stress related to individuals ‘aging, illness or death.
Encourage and promote professionalism in our programs. • Participate in committee’s internally and externally, as requested by the supervisor.
Train and evaluate staff that implements behavior support programs. • Participate in Orientation and Training of new staff and continuing education of other staff as needed.
Develop and implement innovative programs for enhancing the social skills and psychological wellbeing of those we serve. Adhere to Corporate Compliance Guidelines of Mercy Home.
Be available for off-hours agency & community events and fundraisers.

Requirements

Ph.D. Preferred, MA in a related field is required.
NYS license in Psychology Preferred.
Valid and clean New York State Driver’s License preferred.
Minimum of five years of experience as a Psychologist.
OPWDD certified setting preferred.
SCIP-R Instructor preferred.
Prior supervisory experience is required.
Self-starter and ability to work independently & able to handle multiple priorities.
Ability to work off hour emergencies, such as evenings & weekends.
