Stanford University Human Resources (UHR) is seeking a Senior Compensation Analyst, Systems who will directly support clients regarding compensation design, implementation, administration and other compensation-related issues. Provide consultation on compensation policy, practices and compliance and represent Stanford compensation practices to external organizations. Design, conduct and participate in salary surveys, and perform various analyses for purposes of market pricing, salary program development, variable pay, pay structures and job evaluations.
The Senior Compensation Analyst, Systems will also be responsible for building and administering the annual university-wide salary planning program and process, including system configuration and set up, salary planning worksheet; build and conduct annual university-wide market analysis process and prepare University Budget Office analytics and customized analysis and reports for all schools/units. Oversight of the analytic development for major customer or university-wide projects relative to compensation analysis will be required in addition to managing all salary structures, job structures, job attributes and job creation, maintenance and integrity in the system (spreadsheets, Axess, Peoplesoft). This position will also serve as an advisory resource regarding compensation implementation and administration for University Human Resources and line managers.
This role will take on a portion of the Oracle Compensation Administrator responsibilities for compensation plan configuration and set up. This includes responsibility to identify, develop and oversee work of HRIS/UIT technical teams to build and prepare systems for salary planning needed functionality, based on identified issues, user feedback and evolving business needs; ensure all data feeds, automated processes and approval workflows are performing as required; complete in-depth testing and regression testing on system functionality, identify issues and work to develop fixes; conduct all export/download and upload functionality and perform quality/audit analysis through use of complex formulas; manage system utilization, delegation set up, customized access set up and address all user and system related issues.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a large, decentralized organization with complex collaboration and distributed authority. This role will report to the Senior Director of Compensation for Staff, Executive and Global compensation.
We are open to a hybrid work arrangement (a combination of onsite and work from home). The number of days may occasionally fluctuate subject to business need, but the expectation is that this position will be onsite a minimum of 2 days/week.
JOB PURPOSE:
Perform advanced analyses to support the design, implementation, and administration of the compensation function. Design/re-design and develop optimal compensation components for the university and/or school/unit in response to findings. Advise HR managers and line managers on a range of complex matters related to the university’s and/or school’s/unit’s compensation policies, processes, and practices.
CORE DUTIES*:
- Participates in salary surveys on behalf of the university.
- Conduct quality review of prepared job descriptions.
- Review leveling and provide guidance to the university and/or school/unit human resource team(s), as required.
- Fulfill complex client requests for compensation analysis or assistance and provide guidance, recommendations, and designed solutions, where needed, on compensation processes, policies and procedures.
- Provide consultation and expert advice to human resource managers and line managers in the administration of the university, or school/unit-specific compensation program.
- Design, develop, review and provide guidance on retention and incentive plan documentation and/or develop moderately complex incentive plans for university-wide or school/unit-specific needs.
- Conduct research and in-depth analyses for purposes of developing and/or revising existing university or school/unit programs, policies, and/or practices. Draft recommendations based on analyses and assist in implementing solutions.
- Develop draft communication/education materials for human resource managers, line managers and employees, as needed.
- Conduct pre and post salary planning analysis – inclusive of pay equity, market position and budget utilization.
- Develop, build and conduct annual university Market Analysis of all jobs and all incumbents, for purposes of proposing the annual salary program to the University Budget office and prepare customized analysis for each of 26 school/units specific to their organization – providing organization metrics and analysis.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and seven or more years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong, fundamental computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation platforms.
- Advanced communication (verbal and written), consultation, facilitation and presentation skills for conveying information, programs and solutions to peers, managers and leaders.
- Advanced analytical, critical thinking and computational/statistical skills.
- Strong understanding and experience in applying federal and California state wage and hour regulations.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Has in-depth knowledge of advanced excel computation/formulaic skills to build complex spreadsheet functionality.
- Has in-depth knowledge of Axess and Service Now configuration and build and administration of system functionality.
- Has advanced knowledge to build salary planning guide, compensation program and user guide for navigating system functionality to perform compensation actions, processes and programs.
- Acts as the expert and administrator of all system related activities and workgroup authorities in the compensation department, including most significantly the annual salary planning program and process.
- Acts as a system resource and assists others in building/developing analysis functionality for client projects or operational needs.
- Solves complex system configuration and functionality processes in Peoplesoft, Salary Planning Analysis Spreadsheets and Axess system.
- Capable of solving system problems where a precedent may not exist and contributes to system process improvements.
- Advanced computer skills in spreadsheet development and build from multiple sources and refreshes, formulaic calculations to build complex analyses.
- Exceptional analytical, critical thinking and computational/statistical skills.
