Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals facing employment barriers? Saltbush is seeking a dedicated and culturally aware Mentor to join our Foundation to Future team in Alice Springs.
Position Details:
- Location: Alice Springs
- Employment Type: Permanent Full-time
- Excellent Remuneration: $75k to $85k + 11.5% super + salary packaging + 5 weeks annual leave
- Reports To: Central Australian Operations Manager
- Hours: Normal business hours, with flexibility for additional hours as needed
- Travel: Occasional travel to other Saltbush service locations
This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT).

Primary Purpose of the Role: Saltbush Foundation to Future (F2F) is an initiative to provide enduring support to local Aboriginal jobseekers who require specialist engagement, employment, and career development assistance.
This role requires an understanding of the multiple and complex employment barriers many people face working with a case load of individuals.
Saltbush mentoring focusses on the strengths of a person to make their aspirations become reality, creating strong self-esteem, confidence, and capacity. You will guide participants to have agency over their lives and take up opportunities that align with an individual’s aspirations of workforce participation.
This role is part of a team of Mentors and other roles that are focussed on this specific program of services in Alice Springs. This role is designated for a person of Aboriginal heritage to be part of the team that will be working directly for the advancement of local Aboriginal community members.
As a Saltbush Mentor you will be an effective and positive force, willingly embracing our collaborative approach towards developing ever more effective employment services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
To ensure success in your role as a Mentor, you will:
- Work collaboratively and positively with all Saltbush teams and team members.
- Develop trusting professional mentoring relationships with your caseload of participants to facilitate understanding of specific needs.
- Develop and facilitate Employment Pathway Plans for each participant on your caseload responding to the specific barriers and solutions agreed to.
- Facilitate access to the most appropriate resources and services for individuals as they prepare for and take up employment opportunities.
- Conducting one to one sessions or group sessions to explore challenges and solutions and monitor outcomes.
- Engage with and develop relationships with Territory and Federal Employment Service Providers, to ensure required reporting and open dialogue is maintained, and relationships are continually strengthened.
- Work collaboratively and proactively with employers to assist them in strengthening their Aboriginal workforces and working environments.
- Participate in the planning and delivery of workshops and/or activities during work-ready programs as required.
- Maintain records of a participant’s individual activities and progress to support program evaluation and internal reporting.
- Ensure all interactions and engagement reflect the commitment of Saltbush to provision of culturally appropriate services.
- Participate in program evaluations and professional development workshops and training as identified.
- Provide transport services as required which may include visits to local communities or other locations within the regional area.
Essential Selection Criteria:
- This role is designated for a person of Aboriginal heritage to be part of the team that will be working directly for the advancement of local Aboriginal community members. Evidence of Aboriginality will be required for employment.
- Previous experience working in a culturally diverse business environment, with proven teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Genuine capacity for maintaining confidentiality of personal and/or sensitive information whilst respecting legal obligations.
- Well-developed emotional intelligence and an empathetic approach to engagement with capacity to ensure professional boundaries are understood and maintained without bias or judgement.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, negotiate, support and work in a cross-cultural environment.
- Strong written, oral, IT and interpersonal communication skills – with an intermediate skill for an Office 365 environment including SharePoint navigation.
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities, work effectively under pressure, and meet allocated timelines and targets.
- High level organisational skills and self-motivation with the ability to take initiative when working alone and ability to interact and work in a team.

Employment is Subject to You Providing the Following:
- National Police Clearance (no more than three months old)
- NT Working with Children (OCHRE) Card
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Current First Aid
- Evidence of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage
Highly Desirable:
- Experience in Employment Services, preferably with a Community Development Program (CDP) or Workforce Australia provider would be highly regarded, as is experience working with an ESS or similar data system.
- Certificate IV in Employment Services or similar.
