Downtown Streets Team (DST) is a nonprofit organization committed to fighting homelessness through the power of work and dignity of community. DST increases social capital and economic mobility by helping our unhoused neighbors chart a way out of homelessness through community building, volunteering opportunities, employment and human-centered case management. Since 2005, DST has expanded across 16 cities in Northern and Central California, serving over 1,500 people annually.
SUMMARY:
The Senior Director of Employment Social Enterprise (ESE) is a key leadership role, responsible for the strategy and overall success of DST’s employment social enterprise, Streets Team Enterprises. Responsible for workforce development design, strategy and program success, across four counties (Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Solano), this position requires a strategic systems thinker with strong leadership, organizational skills, and a keen ability to build and fortify community partnerships that drive program growth and ensure program excellence.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Leadership:
- Take responsibility for the programmatic design, delivery and effectiveness of DST’s employment social enterprises including but not limited to; BCOE Back2Work and START Santa Clara.
- Partner with fellow senior directors to design and implement results-oriented program strategies that increase organizational impact.
- Foster strong city, county, and community partnerships for sustainable and impactful delivery.
- Manage grants, contracts, and processes across the region to ensure compliance and sound fiscal management.
Team Management
- Manage and motivate a reporting line of 3+ direct reports, 10+ support staff, and 200+ participant employees.
- Prioritize risk-management, safety and excellence in team settings and job design.
- Fill in during the absence of lead staff as needed.
Community Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and donors to expand reach and impact.
- Represent the organization at community events and meetings.
- Secure financial support through fundraising.
- Represent DST’s mission, brand and values internally and externally. Share out best practices and other thought-leadership in industry settings.
Programs and Service Delivery
- Oversee the life cycle of all workforce development programs from assessment, design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement, ensuring high-quality program delivery the results in post program job placement and retention for participants.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
- Track program outcomes and meet contract, grant, and resource deliverables.
- Stay up to date on best practices in the field and identify emerging trends to inform program development; advance program practices that embraces DEIB and seeks to disrupt inequities.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in in a relevant field (public administration, social work, non-profit management, etc.). Master's a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in program management and leadership within the non-profit sector.
- Proficiency in Spanish a plus.
Skills and Abilities
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and evaluate successful social programs.
- Strong understanding of program design, monitoring, and evaluation principles.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build and manage high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Passion for the organization's mission and a commitment to social justice.
- Knowledge of workforce development, employment social enterprises, Housing First methodology, chronic homeless interventions, and public benefit systems.
- Lead and manage a large team of volunteers/clients.
- Plan, organize, and evaluate program activities.
- Communicate effectively with diverse populations and maintain professionalism.
- Make successful presentations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet browsers; ability to learn new software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following: Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and lifting (up to 25 lbs.)
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Moderate noise associated with an open office work environment.
- This is a hybrid position that requires frequent local travel across four counties (Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Solano).
- Driver’s license and personal vehicle required.
- This role may occasionally require working nights and weekends.
