Job Description: Major Gifts Officer
The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is searching for a Major Gifts Officer to spearhead the growth of our global donor community. The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for both stewarding relationships with current donors and building relationships and securing gifts from new potential donors.
HRF is a leading organization advancing human rights around the world and one of the only organizations focused on promoting freedom inside authoritarian regimes. Our work has grown rapidly in recent years in terms of fundraising and programmatic output in order to respond to global threats to freedom. The MajorGift Officer will play a critical role in continuing this growth to help HRF expand its critical work.
The Major Gift Officer will be a member of and work closely with the growing HRF Development Team to coordinate and prioritize their work.
Responsibilities will include
- Managing a portfolio of approximately 100 current donors who have given between $10,000 and $100,000 in the past, with the goal of securing renewals and increases.
- Communicating with your portfolio via phone calls, written correspondence and in-person visits to build relationships and keep them updated on HRF’s activities.
- Researching current and potential donors to assess affinity for HRF’s work and potential giving level.
- Building and working lists of prospects to secure meetings and make appropriate requests for support.
- Conducting outreach to potential donors at conferences and events.
- Securing meetings with current and potential donors.
- Solicitation of gifts from current and potential donors.
- Tracking engagements with donors and prospects in Salesforce.
- Promoting sales of VIP tickets to the Oslo Freedom Forum, Oslo Freedom Forum in New York, and other HRF events.
- Substantial travel will be required to perform these duties.
Requirements include:
- Track record of success in soliciting five-figure gifts from new and potential donors
- Excelled written and verbal communication skills
- Being self-motivated and results-driven
- Collaboration with teammates to achieve mutual success and hit organizational goals
- Experience with Salesforce is preferred but not required
- Strong commitment to HRF’s mission to promote and protect human rights around the world, with a focus on closed societies
Location: Remote office, with regular travel to HRF’s headquarters in the Empire State Building in New York.
