As an IT Manager, you will be working with Senior Research Scientists, Lead Research Analyst, and the Director of Research, and Parallax clients. When working with your team, you will be supporting by analyzing, assisting and supporting collaborative on-site research at the Air Force Research Laboratory for the directorate’s Linux workstations and in-house and commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) related software.
In addition to that, a typical day-in-the-life of a Parallax IT Manager includes:

Analyze the computational needs of the Scientists & Engineers (S&E) of the research organization and pursue meeting those needs in the acquisition and development of hardware, software, and visualization tools.

Support the S&Es in the use of computer graphics software and hardware, scientific visualization tools, and parallel computation.

Configure, update and maintain approximately 40 directorate Linux workstations and laptops in accordance with the latest DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and directorate cybersecurity exceptions and requirements.

Assist in the procurement, acquisition, and installation of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software supporting CFD research.

Support researchers working with the Defense Shared Resource Centers (DSRC) high-performance computers.

Assist in post-processing research data for presentations to project stakeholders at technical conferences within the aerospace community of interest.

Assist in digital curation of project results and technical data packages that may be reused in a digital engineering environment.
Ideally, you are looking for your next long-term challenge and have these skills:

B.S in Computer Science, Systems Science or related degree

Experience with Linux clusters, shell scripting in Linux environments & parallel computing systems

Experience installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification

CompTIA Security + (plus) certification
-
Excellent oral and written communications, presentation and interpersonal skills

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a security clearance
Furthermore, do you have, or want to develop these skills?

Two-years or more of industrial, educational or government experience

Experience with FlexLM and Reprise License Manager Server Software

Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, Fortran

Familiarity with Apple hardware and macOS

Experience with Ubuntu Linux

Experience with the Department of Defense’s High Performance Computing systems
