Organizational Overview:
House of Ruth offers comprehensive services and housing for women and children. Our services range from supportive housing for families and single women in crisis to a therapeutic, developmental daycare for houseless children, and free counseling services to anyone who has been a victim of domestic violence.
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director will supervise the teaching team and assist and develop, and manage program operations including the structure, services, staff, clientele, and physical site.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises the 3rd-floor teaching team in the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum tailored to the age group and the individualized needs of the children. Assists with the supervision of the 2nd-floor team.
- Directly supervises the Office Manager/Eligibility Specialist.
- Assists with recruiting and training the teaching team. Supervises the team including scheduling and performance evaluations. Makes recommendations for hiring, promotion, or discharge. In conjunction with the Director, develops and implements steps to resolve major performance issues.
- Oversees the completion of developmental screenings, progress reports, and parent conferences by the teaching team.
- Manages the daily operations of the center to meet programmatic objectives including overseeing all actions regarding the families. Ensures compliance with OSSE licensing standards as well as quality standards dictated by ECERS, ITERS, NAEYC Accreditation, CLASS, etc. Assists with resolving issues involving the men, women, and children receiving services.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives including QIN, Early Head Start, Capital Quality, etc. Attends relevant meetings with representatives from partner organizations and regularly collaborates with on-site coaches/consultants to ensure the coordination and implementation of best teaching practices.
- Assists with developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the program’s objectives, structure, services, policies, and procedures.
- Ensures the safety and security of all the occupants and the physical sites.
- Assists with completing all required forms and reports.
- Maintains professional relationships with other agencies and organizations as well as with all staff and clientele and provides a positive role model for staff and parents.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors or higher degree in Early Childhood Education related field with at least 24 credits in early childhood courses.
- Two Year experience within early childhood care and education.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Other physical demands include bending and stooping to assist children with dressing needs, toileting, transitioning from sitting on the floor or chair to standing during classroom activities, transferring non-ambulatory children to and from strollers, chairs, changing tables, cribs, etc.
Children may at times pull/jerk away or bolt/run from caregivers.
The ability to intervene in these situations is required. Moving or lifting of any child may be required in an emergency situation (i.e. to assist toddlers in evacuating the building or to ascend or descend stairs) and/or to prevent injury on the playground or other outdoor situations or activities.
