Position Overview
The Instructional Coach will support the academic strategy and model that enables City Year sites to reach school and student outcome goals and consistently strive toward equity in the education system. Key outcomes for the Instructional Coach are: Create instructional learning experiences for AmeriCorps members (ACMs) and staff that build the skills and knowledge necessary to reach school and student outcome measures; Support and implement an inclusive & equitable academic strategy and model for the Tier One and Tier Two spaces that ensures we reach our student outcome measures in math and literacy; while incorporating our diversity, belonging, inclusivity and equity policy work; Serve as an active member of the CY community in order to advance the site and work toward the Long-Term Impact Strategy.
Job Description
Reporting to the Learning and Development Director, the Instructional Coach supports City Year AmeriCorps members and Impact Managers in achieving student outcome results. This person is responsible for partnering with the Learning, Development & Evaluations Director, Analytics Manager, Impact Directors, and Impact Managers to coach a specific group of AmeriCorps Members throughout all aspects of their attendance, SEL and course performance work. This includes managing a portfolio of up to six school teams and coaching up to 30 AmeriCorps members per quarter. In addition, the Instructional Coach is responsible for creating and improving Whole School Whole Child Learning and Development content and implementation tools.
Each program year, the Instructional Coach will ensure student level success by:
Supporting student level impact through coaching and intervention support
Collaborating to provide one-on-one, team-level, and site level academic intervention training and support to Corps members.
Providing focused support to help Corps members deliver quality tutoring for their students to help improve grades, complete homework, and organize for success in school.
Conducting monthly Observation & Coaching Sessions for ACMs in portfolio of schools
Working with Impact Managers to develop a team level needs assessment that supports in identifying ACMs academic comfort levels, training needs and ACMs needing more one-on-one support in planning and facilitating interventions
Executing an annual observation and coaching plan by:
Observing all Corps members at assigned schools
Developing a list of “Coaching Cycle” ACMs across 5-6 assigned schools; supporting Impact Managers with co-observations of additional ACMs as needed
Assessing “Coaching Cycle” ACMs and update list of ACMs receiving additional support as needed
Supporting overall service at City Year Tulsa by:
Partnering with Learning, Development and Evaluation team to facilitatemonthly Impact conversationto review student outcomes, intervention trends andadditional areas to work on
Partnering with Analytics Manager and Learning & Development Managerto trainAmeriCorps Members in understanding and utilizing assessment data and incorporating that information into lesson planning.
Assisting Impact Team in diagnosing service implementation gaps and recommending solutions by observing service and reviewing data.
Working with Learning, Development & Evaluation team, Impact Directors, and the Impact Team to create and facilitate service-based learning and development sessions throughout the fiscal year.
Additional Responsibilities
Full Partnership with All City Year Initiatives: Partner with all City Year departments to effectively communicate required participation of Staff and Corps Members to meet team assigned quarterly goals. Work with a cross functional multi-departmental team including, Evaluation, Impact, Development, Operations, and HQ Learning & Development
