Position Overview
City Year Kansas City seeks a collaborative and innovative Events and Communications Manager to support the City Year Kansas City Development Department in conveying the power of City Year Kansas City’s service through marketing materials and events to key stakeholders. The Events and Communications Manager designs, executes, and evaluates events that engage stakeholders in meaningful action and dialogue in support of the site, with specific focus on building awareness, engaging the community, raising increased resources, and ultimately, serving more students.
The Events and Communications Manager will also provide support to the site by writing and designing collateral, including one-pagers, reports, electronic newsletters, and invitations. The position will be the primary driver of City Year Kansas City’s social media strategy. As a member of the Development Department, collaboration with City Year Kansas City’s Development Director will be imperative.
The starting salary for this position is $54,000. This is a primarily in-person role, with intermittent options to work remotely.
Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES – EVENTS
Manage the maintenance of the events calendar, to include national and local events in collaboration with the Development Director.
City Year KC’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Serviceand Idealist Gala
Develop and manage MLK Day (annual event utilizing ~150 volunteers for a beautification project at a local school) and the Idealist Gala.
Create and maintain all pertinent event documents, including RSVP lists, vendor lists, and supply lists.
In partnership with HQ and the development team, secure all event collateral including invitations, event signage, talking points, thank you notes.
Collaborate with the Development team, site leadership, ACMs, and volunteers to articulate clear goals for the event.
General City Year Event Oversight
Develop and manage annual events celebrating our AmeriCorps Members’ achievements and engaging stakeholders including, but not limited to, Red Jacket Day, First Day of School Kickoff, and City Year Graduation.
RESPONSIBILITIES – DESIGN / SITE COLLATERAL
In collaboration with HQ, design collateral and content for City Year Kansas City.
RESPONSIBILITIES – SOCIAL MEDIA
In collaboration with HQ, act as the primary driver of City Year Kansas City’s social media strategy.
RESPONSIBILITIES – DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES
General assistance in City Year Kansas City’s Development Department.
