Day Camp Assistant Directors play an integral role in the on-site leadership at a camp location. Assistant Directors are responsible for supporting the Camp Director with maintaining administrative tasks and supervising staff; coaching and mentoring counsellors, and ensuring all children have positive day camp experiences leading to personal growth. Assistant Directors will act as Camp Director when the Day Camp Director is off site at meetings and/or absent.
In this role, you will:
- Provide on-site leadership and supervision to camp staff through training, coaching, monitoring performance and supporting staff to meet expectations of their roles
- Coordinate daily operations of day camp program including creating and completing set up and take down checklists and designing schedules so that all camper groups participate in all the activities outlined in program manuals
- Monitor the delivery of safe, high-quality programs and making sure staff have all the supplies they require and are incorporating day camp values beads daily
- Ensure administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time including all paperwork associated with payroll, staff scheduling, camper attendance, parent communication, YMCA visa reconciling and sent to Administrative Coordinators
- Be responsible for parent and staff communication including checking camp email and voicemail daily, respond to all parent inquiries in a courteous and prompt manner
- Responsible for attending all staff trainings and meetings; arriving on time, and actively participating and contributing to the development of all camp staff
- Ensure Health & Safety procedures are being followed and maintained and contribute to the cleaning, safety and maintenance to camp sites
- Act as a positive role model for the campers and fellow staff through embodying the YMCA values, policies and procedures, Day Camp conditions of employment/guidelines and the Ontario Camping Association standards
You bring:
- Post-secondary education (or currently enrolled) preferred
- Minimum 1-year experience in a child-oriented programs; camp specific setting as asset
- Experience as a supervisor an asset
- Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’ certificate valid until the last day of contract
- Experience working with children preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with families, staff and volunteers
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a group of children
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
