Peer Support Specialist Supervisor

Job Summary
The Peer Support Specialist Supervisor will oversee and coordinate the activities of peer support specialists to ensure the effective delivery of participant-focused recovery services to individuals, groups, and families. This leadership role combines lived experience, mentorship, and administrative responsibilities to inspire and guide peer staff while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
Salary Range: $31.00–$38.46 per hour (approximately $64,480–$80,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications)
Reports to: Program Manager
Key Responsibilities
1). Supervision & Leadership
• Provide direct supervision and support to peer support specialists through regular one-on-one and team meetings.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and recovery-oriented work environment aligned with The Happier Life Project’s mission.
• Address performance concerns constructively and conduct formal evaluations.
2) Program Coordination
• Coordinate and schedule peer support services to ensure coverage and alignment with program goals.
• Collaborate with other supervisors and program staff to integrate peer services effectively into broader organizational efforts.
• Contribute to innovative recovery approaches such as holistic care, digital tools, harm reduction strategies, and community-based interventions tailored to participant needs.
• Work closely with a co-supervisor to provide guidance and coordination for interns and volunteers.
3) Training & Development
• Onboard and train new hires in peer support principles, organizational procedures, and documentation practices.
• Facilitate ongoing training and mentorship to promote professional development.
• Identify opportunities for staff growth and provide access to resources and training sessions.
4) Service Delivery Oversight
• Monitor and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of peer support services using participant feedback, service documentation, and direct observation.
• Provide guidance to staff on addressing complex situations, professional conduct, and boundary setting.
• Serve as a role model by sharing personal recovery experiences when appropriate to inspire trust and connection.
5) Administrative Duties
• Maintain accurate records of staff performance, participant interactions, and service outcomes.
• Assist with data collection and reporting requirements to meet organizational and funding obligations.
• Participate in team meetings, organizational planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
6) Advocacy & Outreach
• Advocate for peer support services and promote understanding of recovery principles within the organization and community.
• Represent the peer support program in stakeholder, community partner, and external organization meetings.
Qualifications
1) Required Experience
• Lived experience with mental health, substance use, or co-occurring challenges, with a minimum of three years in active recovery.
• Certification as a Peer Support Specialist or equivalent (state-specific requirements apply).
• Minimum of three years’ supervisory or team leadership experience, preferably in peer support or recovery-oriented roles.
2) Skills & Competencies
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to foster trust, respect, and collaboration among team members and participants.
• In-depth knowledge of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and peer support best practices.
• Proficiency in documentation, reporting, and technology tools for administrative tasks.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
• Experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to cultural competency.
• Familiarity with case management, crisis intervention, or behavioral health services.
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related fields (or equivalent experience).
Licenses & Certifications
• Current driver’s license.
• Current automobile insurance.
Certification as a Peer Support Specialist or equivalent (state-specific requirements apply).
Physical & Mental Demands
• Strong leadership skills for supervising peer support specialists and ensuring service quality.
• Effective conflict resolution abilities to mediate team disputes or participant-related issues.
• Emotional resilience to manage sensitive participant stories or team challenges.
• Attention to detail in documentation and program metrics.
• Extended periods of computer use for documentation, scheduling, and reporting.
• Occasional travel for community visits or participant engagement.
• Light lifting of materials such as training manuals or laptops (up to 15 lbs.).
Compensation & Benefits
• Vacation: 10 days annually, prorated based on hours worked (eligible after six months of employment).
• Sick Leave: 40 hours frontloaded upon hire (usable after 90 days).
• Holidays: 13 paid days annually.
