Our Mission
Horizons for Homeless Children is a Boston-based non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of young children experiencing homelessness in Massachusetts. We help their families succeed by providing high-quality early education, opportunities for play, and comprehensive family support services. Our advocacy efforts extend our impact and advance our vision of ending homelessness among families with young children.
Summary of Position
As the Individual Giving and Events Coordinator, you’ll be a member of a highly skilled and productive team of fundraising professionals working together to improve the lives of homeless children and their families. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Annual Giving and Assistant VP of Development, together you’ll ensure the success of Horizons’ annual fund and events. For scope, Horizons for Homeless Children currently raises over $8 million through the Annual Fund of which over $2 million is raised through events.
Responsibilities
Event Management
- Provide administrative and event-planning support for Horizons' annual signature events (Annual Golf Tournament, Horizons Breakfast, Holidays with Horizons, Spring Gala)
- Assist with the management of Team Horizons, our annual Boston Marathon fundraising team
- With the Director of Annual Giving, take a leadership role in managing our Young Professionals Group (PLAY Network)
- Partner with Marketing and Communications to develop event messaging and event-related materials, including programs, save the date reminders, invitations and follow-up emails, ensuring deliverables are on track and on budget
- Coordinate event logistics, including communicating with vendors, creating event timelines and staffing and volunteer assignments, and overseeing event setup and breakdown
- Collaborate with colleagues across the organization, leveraging event planning and logistics expertise to ensure the success of internal and external events across departments and programs.
Administrative Support and Donor Relationship Management
- Efficiently and thoroughly manage administrative needs, including:
- maintaining files and record keeping in the donor database (Raiser’s Edge NXT)
- purchasing supplies
- track inventory
- process invoices, and track and reconcile expenses
- schedule meetings
- prepare meeting materials and coordinate meeting logistics
- research prospective donors and create donor profiles
- perform other duties as assigned
- Provide general support including answering donor inquiries via phone and email
- Generate invoices for donor sponsorship commitments
Where and when you’ll work
This is a 40-hour, full time position that’s exempt from overtime. You can expect to work a hybrid schedule Monday through Friday with at least 4 days on site and 1 day working from home during regular business hours. There will be occasional evening or weekend events with advanced planning and notice. Our office is located: Edgerley Family Horizons Center at 1785 Columbus Ave, Roxbury, MA.
Starting salary range, compensation, and benefits
$58,670.20-$61,468.71 is the starting salary range for this role. Your starting salary will fall within that range depending on your competencies, experience, and skillset.
Your total compensation package includes the following benefits:
- Health coverage options designed to be as comprehensive and affordable for you as possible, with Horizons covering between 70-75% of premiums (a value that ranges from an additional $8,000 – 20,000 per year based on your enrollment choices).
- While you have a choice between an HMO and PPO plan for medical coverage, most employees pay $99.89 for individual, $199.79 for 2-person, or $314.21 for family coverage per bi-weekly paycheck and never pay more than $300 for individual or $600 for 2-person/family toward deductibles.
- Paid leave coverage is offered through Massachusetts’ Paid Family and Medical Leave. Horizons covers both medical and family contributions at 60% (100% for employees who earn less than $50,000 annually) with up to 26 weeks of paid leave available based on eligibility and approval.
- Horizons’ additionally offers 1 week for paid parental leave for welcoming a child into your family through birth, foster, or adoption, that often covers the waiting period for PFML to begin.
