About the Opportunity
Situated within UJA’s Integrated Development Department, UJA’s Transformational and Special Philanthropy team plays a vital role in supporting key community priorities through high-impact, multimillion-dollar campaigns.
Reporting to the Vice-President, Philanthropic Leadership Group, the Senior Director, Transformational & Special Philanthropy, will provide strategic oversight and management of all transformational campaigns as well as supplemental and special campaigns to raise funds for community priorities. This includes initiatives such as combating antisemitism, community security, the Toronto Holocaust Museum, the Holocaust Survivors Support Fund, Jewish education, and support for Israel. The Senior Director will also have primary accountability for working with third parties seeking UJA’s partnership in fundraising initiatives and will lead all emergency campaigns in times of crisis.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide strategic oversight and direction for transformational and special campaigns to advance UJA’s mission and address critical community priorities.
- Oversee a small team of fundraisers focused on transformational and special campaigns, ensuring effective cultivation and stewardship of donors.
- Lead the planning and execution of emergency campaigns during crises, ensuring rapid mobilization of resources.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to develop and execute fundraising initiatives that align with UJA’s strategic priorities.
- Work closely with third-party organizations and community partners to facilitate joint fundraising initiatives, providing guidance and support to maximize impact.
- Develop and implement individualized engagement and solicitation strategies for high-net-worth donors.
- Identify, research, and evaluate new donor prospects, creating a robust pipeline of potential contributors to transformational and special campaigns.
- Track and analyze donor engagement and giving patterns, ensuring timely follow-up and stewardship.
- Collaborate with the Senior Director of Donor Experience to create meaningful donor recognition and stewardship opportunities.
- Ensure alignment between UJA’s fundraising strategies and community priorities, adjusting campaign goals and tactics as needed.
- Prepare and deliver high-level presentations, proposals, and reports for leadership and donors.
- Represent UJA at community events and gatherings, strengthening relationships with donors and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of relevant experience in fundraising, sales, or related fields, with a focus on major gifts and transformational campaigns.
- Proven success in cultivating and securing high-value gifts from high-net-worth individuals and families.
- Team management experience, with the ability to inspire and lead a high-performing team.
- Strong relationship-building and coalition-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Experience managing emergency or crisis fundraising initiatives is an asset.
- Proficiency in donor management software (Salesforce preferred) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Exceptional organizational, prioritizing, and time-management abilities, with a track record of managing multiple high-level projects simultaneously.
- Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling donor materials.
- High level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Enthusiasm, creativity, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

This is a full-time permanent position. We support a flexible work schedule, and all of our employees engage in hybrid work.
