Position Summary
The Oncology Data Specialist Coordinator handles daily operations of the hospital’s cancer registry, including case finding, data abstraction, and submission to the National Cancer Database. The role ensures data accuracy, analyzes and reports findings at the Comprehensive Cancer Care Committee, and supports registry needs across departments. The coordinator also optimizes workflows, balances service requests with resources, and assists in coaching and performance improvement for registry staff.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for case finding, abstracting data, as well as analyzing and reporting this data out at Comprehensive Cancer Care Committee.
- Ensures accuracy and integrity of medical record abstracted data.
- Enters information into facility's data base and submits data to the National Cancer Database.
- Coordinate operational activities for the hospital cancer registry Balance requests for services with resources.
- Coordinate processes and workflow associated with cancer registry operations. Support registry needs throughout the hospital.
- Assist with coaching and performance improvement plans for registry staff
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Possess and maintains Certified Tumor Registry (CTR) Certification
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Organizational and administrative skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written
- Advanced computer skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Exercise discretion, judgment and initiative
