In support of Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY)’s mission, the Director of Clinical Services (DCS), in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), acts as an affiliate clinical leader, including privileging, supervising, provider consultations and ensuring quality patient care by clinical staff (NP, PA, RN, PCA, PCS). Ensures high-quality medical services are delivered at all health centers through evaluation and performance measurement of providers and programs. The DCS participates as a member of the PPCWNY medical management team; Oversees operations for Care Coordination and Navigation teams.
Essential Functions- Collaborates with CMO to provide medical consultation coverage to clinicians regarding the clinical management of patients.
- Collaborate closely with the Health Center Manager and Health Services leadership teams to ensure that PPFA productivity goals for visits/hour, cycle times, clinical staffing ratios and other identified key performance indicators meet or exceed the annual budget
- Develops clinical efficiencies to ensure that productivity goals are met
- Participates in annual department planning and budgeting
- Works with Health Center Operations leadership to analyze and resolve service delivery problems
- Collaborates with the Director of Health Services Initiatives & Implementation (DHSII) to implement and oversee new clinical projects and ensure appropriate training of clinical staff
- In consultation with the CMO and Director of Compliance, Quality and Risk Management (DCQRM), ensures health center staff understand and comply with organization protocols including medical standards and guidelines, risk management and safety procedures, consent, infection control protocols, pharmaceuticals, CLIA, billing and coding practices, and applicable OSHA safety standards. Collaborate with DHSII to address training needs of clinical support staff
- In consultation with the CMO and DCQRM, establishes clinical and administrative protocols, policies, procedures, and practices that meet the requirements of PPFA, OSHA, NYSDOH and federal statutes and regulations, and the regulations and program guidelines of funding agencies
- Completes the annual evaluation process with direct reports and provide ongoing coaching
- Participates in hiring, motivating, coaching, and training plans for clinical staff.
- Develops workflow processes to ensure efficient and patient-focused care
- Provides uninterrupted coverage for clinician staff by developing and maintaining an up to date per diem pool and covers in clinic as a clinician as needed.
- Works with Medical Leadership team and Health Center Managers to build a creative, innovative, patient and service-oriented culture that allows health centers to achieve customer service, operational and financial goals
- Fosters a positive communication environment including eliciting creativity, staff ideas, concerns, and suggestions
- Responds to or address escalation of problems/issues as appropriate
- Ensures all required training is completed for direct reports and clinical staff and has overall accountability for staff within area of responsibility
- Identifies and encourages growth and development of clinical staff
- Provides Electronic Health Record assistance in developing new templates and training new clinical staff
- Interfaces with the billing department to ensure appropriate use of diagnostic and procedure codes. Monitors coding/billing issues on a regular basis. Attends Revenue Cycle meetings and follows up on documentation and coding opportunities
- Supports Director of Health Services Initiatives & Implementation to design, implement and evaluate agency-wide training programs for staff
- Provides support to Health Center Managers for resolution of patient complaints about clinical service provision
- Provides oversight of on call services and serves as back up on-call provider as needed
- Provides direct patient care one day per week
Other Accountability Activities
- Represents the agency/department with external committees and groups and on internal teams as requested
- Prepare and/or monitors agency (including monthly stats and narrative), state, federal and other required reports as requested
- Shows respect to all internal and external customers for differences in backgrounds, lifestyles, viewpoints and needs in areas such as race, gender, ethnicity, creed, sexual orientation, and others
- Participates in affiliate initiatives as needed
- Works on other projects as assigned by the VP of Health Services
- Performs other duties as assigned
Applicants must possess the following qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):
Education—
- Must have a current NYS license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Nurse Practitioners must be board certified by the National Certification Corporation, America’s Nurses Credentialing Center, or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; Physician Assistants must be certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
Experience—
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience of direct supervision and management in a patient care setting, preferably in family planning.
- Must have experience working with Electronic Health Records.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities—
- Demonstrated success in in building effective work teams with diverse staff
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage efficient and effective clinical operation systems
- Proven skills in analyzing and resolving service delivery problems
- Proficiency in group and individual training, including skills in setting up training systems and monitoring outcomes
- Must have ability to make formal and informal presentations to a variety of audiences (Board, funders, other organizations, etc.)
- Must have proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of products
- Must be able to work independently
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule and travel to multiple sites, as needed

Work ScheduleThis is a full-time, 40 hour a week, position; regular schedule will be Monday – Friday with occasional evenings and weekends.
Benefits & CompensationAt PPCWNY, we are committed to equitable compensation practices and transparency. In alignment with these efforts, the pay for this position ranges from $106,766.40 to $136,427.20/year.
