WWF-India is one of the largest organisations engaged in wildlife and nature conservation over the past 50 years. We are seeking applications from candidates for the vacancy of Associate Director - Sunderbans Programme, to be based out of our Kolkata office.
The role entails responsibilities like coordinating a team of highly technical senior experts involved in delivering the Sundarbans Programme and ensuring effective implementation of a portfolio of projects in the Sundarbans Programme Area. This role requires excellent project management and inter-personal skills to deliver quality outcomes from such a diverse programme. Financial and operational management of the Sundarbans Programme is a core responsibility of this position.
The role will require work on various projects implemented in the Sundarbans Programme Area, be involved in various field implementation and research, and assist with outreach/dissemination activities. The person in this position is required to use their technical knowledge and skills to raise the profile of many of the activities and display enthusiastic leadership and a result-oriented approach.

Job Profile:
Programme Coordination, Management and Compliance
- Responsible for financial and operational management of the Sundarbans Programme.
- Provide strategic management oversight and support to the Sundarbans programme team to ensure effective implementation of various projects for timely delivery of outcomes and achievement of technical and financial targets.
- Coordinate with cross-cutting teams in WWF-India Secretariat and the Sundarbans programme team for maximising synergies to ensure coordination and collaboration at various levels needed to implement field projects/activities such as species/habitat conservation, renewable energy and decarbonisation, and adaptation to climate change and enhance conservation impacts.
- Ensure efficient and effective monitoring, evaluation and learning processes in the Sundarbans programme to keep track of the progress towards the achievement of the strategic goals.
- Uphold organisational policies and strengthen existing MIS to achieve greater efficiency and operational compliance in the Sundarbans Programme.
- Ensure implementation of policies, procedures, and systems for all human resources, financial and administration as applicable in WWF-India.
Partnerships & procurements
- Provide strategic inputsand support Director Sundarbans in identifying and developing new partnership opportunities with diverse stakeholders.
- Manage processes including coordination with the HR and Programme Finance team for third party and temporary hiring in the Sundarbans Programme to support project delivery in a timely manner.
- Manage processes for onboarding of partners and consultants, including development, execution and monitoring of relevant MoU.
- Work closely with the Programme Operations to coordinate and track the procurement of goods and services for the Sundarbans programme.
- Enable the team to take up adaptive management steps for project implementation in the face of unforeseen challenges.
Programme Development
- Lead conceptualising and developing proposals/funding proposals.
- Support fundraising efforts in the team, including but not limited to responding to WWF-Network and external funding opportunities.
- Build, maintain and strengthen relationships with external and network donors.
- Responsible for timely technical and financial reporting.
- Design and contribute to field projects/activities such as species/habitat conservation, renewable energy and decarbonisation, and adaptation to climate change.
Policy engagement, Outreach and Partnerships
- Together with the Director – Sundarbans strengthen outreach and communications and delivery of outputs therein.
- Take initiatives to organise workshops/meetings, prepare background documents, and prepare relevant documents for broader dissemination/advocacy.
- Provide inputs for strategic discussions with key stakeholders to facilitate the main streaming of project interventions or learning thereof into policies and plans.
- Represent WWF-India in various fora as agreed with Director Sundarbans Programme
Requirements
Desired Qualifications, Experience & Abilities:
- Minimum POST GRADUATION degree/diploma in relevant disciplines/management
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience, of which last 5 years in a position of responsibilities.
- Candidate should have solid project management and people management experience.
- Must have effective written and oral communication
