Job Summary/Responsibilities:
People USA will provide Dutchess/Ulster County with a job coach, who will support the daily operations for the expansion of our new employment program. The job coach provides peer support for participants/individuals with training and support interventions that can be used in case services and assistance/support on or off-the-job. The job coach’s service depends on the participant’s IEP, it can be for a short term or long-term basis, which are employment related and needed to promote job development, adjustments, and retention. The job coach must have ongoing contact with participant/individuals/employers/coworkers to ensure job satisfaction and a successful work environment.
The job coach must be able to assist individuals/participants in the following areas.
- Job Orientation
- Job destination/transportation training
- Resume writing/building
- Mock interviewing skills/preparation
- Job clubs
- Job coaching
- Teaching basic job tasks/rules
- Supervision at the workplace/worksite
- Creating relationship with employers/supervisors’ consultation
- Assistance with integrating not the work environment.
- Addressing interpersonal concerns with coworkers and employers/supervisors
- Assisting with adjustments in the workplace/work environment
- Assistance with connecting to public community resources.
- Ongoing contact with individuals/participants and employers/coworkers to continue a healthy work environment/job stratification.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment: This job operates mostly in community settings, including hospital inpatient units. The job also operates in a peer-run non-clinical mental health care setting that includes professional office environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, and the expected hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. This position requires up to 50% travel.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in health or human services and one year of qualifying experience providing direct services beyond routine personal care or supervision in individuals with disabilities in a rehabilitation program or facility or providing vocational and educational services to individuals with disabilities in the areas of assessment, counseling, job coaching guidance, placement, or job development.
OR
An associate degree of 60 college credits; and two years ‘experience providing direct services beyond routine personal care of supervision to individuals with disabilities in a rehabilitation program or facility or providing vocational and educational services to individuals with disabilities in the areas of assessment, counseling, job coaching guidance, placement, or job development.
OR
A combination of high school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience providing direct services beyond routine personal care of supervision to individuals with disabilities in a rehabilitation program or facility or providing vocational and educational services to individuals with disabilities in the areas of assessment, counseling, job coaching guidance, placement, or job development.
- Personal lived experience/s with mental illness or substance abuse.
- Preferred Education & Experience
- Preferred Bilingual English/Spanish
- Significant demonstrable experience in health & human services
- Must work towards or possess the following: The New York State Certified Peer Specialist must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
