About the Opportunity
Are you ready to make a tangible impact on sustainable transportation and climate solutions? As an Operations Tap2Ride Analyst through the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting impactful sustainability initiatives with Capitol Corridor. This hybrid position offers the flexibility to work3 days remotely and 2 days onsite each week.
The Operations Tap2Ride Analyst will tackle projects that enhance the management and maintenance of Capitol Corridor trains and stations, informing improvements to the service and contributing to increased ridership and reduced Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMTs). This role offers a unique opportunity to develop research, data analysis, reporting, customer service, administrative, and organizational skills while gaining hands-on experience with a leading intercity passenger rail system committed to reducing the region’s carbon footprint. The Fellow will also provide critical data analysis for a contactless payment pilot that CCJPA has been working on.

About Our Partner: Capitol Corridor
Capitol Corridor is an intercity passenger rail service connecting Auburn/Sacramento to Silicon Valley, including San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley. As a vital transit service in the Northern California megaregion, the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) plays an important role in reducing car trips and the dangerous and polluting emissions that result from automobile travel.
What You’ll Do
The Capitol Corridor Project Fellow will have the opportunity to work alongside key Capitol Corridor transportation service, planning, marketing, and administrative management staff. Some responsibilities may include the following:
- Learn the CCJPA Business Intelligence, Zoho, and other CCJPA databases and data sources; produce and update reports and charts that track Capitol Corridor performance and are used to make improvements to the service.
- Ride the Capitol Corridor train and visit stations throughout the Capitol Corridor route to collect data and perform other activities that support operational and special project needs.
- Prepare for and attend project, staff, and CCJPA Board meetings.
- Assist with operations, customer support, planning, marketing, and general administrative projects and functions.
- Analysis of real-time ridership counter data including some work with machine learning and AI. This could also include studying how passengers would best like to receive real-time information.
- Station Area Land Use/Access – GIS capture of land use in station areas for densities allowed, more detailed uses at a scale for planning for future transbay rail crossing analysis, station typology database development, and other related actions to be developed with CCJPA Planning staff. Developed the Station Access Project which assessed each Capitol Corridor station for walkability, bicycle, and scooter access.
- Research and compare different fare structures of passenger rail services.
- Assist Engineering staff with data, site visits, PowerPoints, etc.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience with data analysis using software such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
- Experience with customer support and/or marketing projects.
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) using software such as QGIS and ArcGIS.
- Experience with technical writing (e.g., grant writing, report writing, etc.) and administrative writing (e.g., emails, memos, letters, meeting summaries, etc.).
- Experience in supporting management in administrative tasks (e.g., printing, file management, meeting preparation, etc.).
- Experience with creating presentations, public speaking, and/or workshops.
- The ability to work onsite on a hybrid basis (onsite work 2 days per week & remote 3 days per week).
- Coursework or related experience in environmental fields (e.g., internships, volunteer work) is preferred.
- A demonstrated commitment to addressing racism and advancing racial equity, both within team dynamics and programmatically.
- Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
- May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
