The Manager, Volunteer Initiatives and Development (MVID) at United Way Worldwide will play a pivotal role in strategizing, pursuing, executing, and evaluating partnerships that are largely or wholly based on volunteer engagements. Reporting to the Vice President, Global Corporate Partnerships, this position will work closely with Account Managers, local United Ways, and corporate contacts to provide strategic counsel, develop engagement strategies, and ensure the successful implementation of volunteer programs. The role involves writing strategies and guidelines for corporate engagement as well as managing and executing fee-based volunteer opportunities. The Manager will stay abreast of trends in volunteering to keep United Way at the forefront of volunteer engagement and will serve as a strategic resource to local United Ways to enhance their volunteer programs.
MVID role is ideal for a dynamic and strategic professional who is passionate about volunteerism and has a strong background in developing and managing volunteer programs and corporate partnerships.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION
- Collaborate with the Vice President, Global Corporate Partnerships, other members of the Global Corporate Partnerships team, local United Ways, and corporate contacts to develop and execute volunteer-based partnerships.
- Provide strategic counsel on volunteer engagement to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage, execute, evaluate and improve fee-based volunteer opportunities, ensuring that fees reflect both hard and soft costs and contribute to the overall mission of United Way.
- Develop and write strategies and guidelines for volunteer engagement, including criteria for when and how to engage with companies.
- Support local United Ways in executing contracted volunteer engagement opportunities and delivering with attention to detail, focusing on great customer service and execution, internally and externally.
- Stay current on trends in volunteering and adjust strategies and offerings to maintain United Way's leadership in this area.
- Make presentations virtually and in-person on volunteer engagement focusing on strategic advice and best practices to internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead directly and indirectly, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment, with a critical eye towards continuous evaluation and improvement.
Preferred Background
- Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in volunteer management, corporate partnerships, or nonprofit development. United Way experience preferred.
- Proven track record in developing and managing volunteer programs and corporate partnerships.
- Experience in managing fee-based programs and understanding of cost structures, inclusive of capacity-building.
- Knowledge of current trends in volunteering and corporate social responsibility.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across teams and departments.
