Development Coordinator
Reports To: Director Of Development
Classification: Non-exempt
Position Description
United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County is seeking a full-time Development
Assistant to support our Director of Development in various fundraising and marketing
initiatives. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, with a
passion for our mission of Improving Lives By Connecting and Mobilizing Community Resources
and a desire to contribute to our growth. This role will primarily focus on workplace campaigns,
marketing efforts, and event planning.
Responsibilities:
â Workplace Campaign Management
â Collaborate with the Director of Development to develop strategies to manage
workplace campaign participation and donations.
â Identify and cultivate relationships with potential corporate partners and donors.
â Assist in creating materials and presentations to promote workplace campaigns
to potential donors.
â Event Planning
â Assist in planning and organizing fundraising events, including logistics,
promotion, and attendee management.
â Coordinate with vendors, sponsors, and volunteers to ensure smooth execution
of events.
â Provide on-site support during events as needed.
â Marketing
â Assist in developing and executing marketing campaigns to raise awareness of
our organization and its mission.
â Manage social media accounts and create engaging content to increase our
online presence.
â Assist in creating marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, and newsletters.
â Donor Relations
â Assist in maintaining donor database and ensuring accurate and up-to-date
records.
â Respond to donor inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
â Administrative Support
â Provide general administrative support to the Director of Development, including
scheduling meetings, managing calendars and preparing materials for
presentations.

â Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, over the phone and in person.
â Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a small team.
â Ability to work under pressure and in potentially stressful situations.
â Awareness of the work of United Way and local community service organizations.
â Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends with advance notice for scheduled
events.
â A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for regional travel is required. (Mileage
reimbursed at Virginia state rate.)
â This position’s physical office will be located in Staunton.
Qualifications
â Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related
field preferred.
â Previous experience in fundraising, marketing, or event planning is a plus.
â Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
â Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
â Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
â Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
â Passion for the mission and values of United Way.
