Philanthropic Advisor, Nonprofit & Community Generalist

 

POSTION: Full-time Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Philanthropy

REPORTS TO: Director, Donor Relationships

 

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta works to inspire and lead our region toward equity and shared prosperity for all who call our region home. We work with a shared commitment to community working with residents, neighborhoods and civic leaders across public, private and philanthropic sectors to seize the greatest opportunities and solve the region’s most pressing challenges.

 

As the Community Foundation nears its 75th anniversary in 2026, it is in a period of exciting growth and transformation. After launching a strategic plan focused on equity and shared prosperity in 2021, the Community Foundation now has the opportunity to partner with donors to cultivate their own charitable goals and inspire donors to collectively give to support shared strategic priorities. The Philanthropic Advisor, Nonprofit & Community Generalist will be an important resource and partner for the organization as they work with nonprofits and donors in the Atlanta community.

 

Essential Functions of Position:

 

  • Research, Analysis & Sector Insights
    • Conduct research and provide written reports on nonprofit organizations that align with donor-advised fund holder interest areas.
    • Research and analyze philanthropic trends and best practices, identifying innovative approaches to engage donors and enhance the Foundation’s portfolio of donor offerings.
    • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of donor education and engagement initiatives, using data to refine strategies and improve outcomes.
    • Activate personal and professional networks to stay current in the trends on the Atlanta regional nonprofit sector to identify opportunities to educate, engage and connect donors to meaningful philanthropic opportunities.
    • Stay current in the trends in the Atlanta regional nonprofit sector and identify opportunities to educate and engage donors on relevant topics and trends.
  • Donor Engagement & Alignment
    • Collaborate with the Philanthropy team to build and maintain relationships with key donors, aligning their giving interests with nonprofit organizations and strategic initiatives that address critical community needs.
    • Work collaboratively with the Community Impact team to understand strategic priorities of the Foundation with the goal of aligning donor intent.
    • Develop and implement donor education opportunities, such as site visits, learning journeys, and thought leadership programming, to deepen donor engagement, while aligning with donor interests.
    • Approach the stewardship of donors with genuine curiosity about the issues that motivate them to give and explore ways to enhance the donor experience internally and externally.
    • Represent Community Foundation at external events to include leading and facilitating speaking engagements and thought leadership within the organization and with partners.
    • Provide input and thought partnership on donor retention strategies and the development of donor communications and educational materials.
  • Project Management & Grantmaking Coordination
    • Project manage philanthropy dockets, overseeing formal grantmaking processes for donor-advised funds and supporting organizations.
    • Ensure smooth execution of donor services by coordinating with internal teams (Community, Marketing, Finance, etc.) to optimize resources and maximize donor impact.
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret data to inform strategy and drive decision-making assess community needs, measure impact, and guide philanthropic investments.
    • Create opportunities to build relationships with nonprofits in the Atlanta region that are aligned with the interests of Community Foundation donors.
    • Operate with a continuous improvement mindset, identifying opportunities to enhance donor engagement, streamline processes, and integrate functions across departments for maximum efficiency.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 6+ years’ experience or 8+ years equivalent of working in the nonprofit or philanthropic field in Atlanta with a broad-based knowledge of the sector; previous experience working for or with community foundations is highly desirable.
  • Experience and demonstrated results connecting, collaborating, and engaging with donors and high net worth individuals for purposes of philanthropic engagement
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills
  • Entrepreneurial and continuous learning mindset; comfortable navigating ambiguity and proactively identifying opportunities for growth and improvement
  • Exceptional relationship building skills, adept at engaging diverse stakeholders with professionalism and empathy
  • Strong project management abilities including ability to plan, execute, and oversee multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and strategic goals
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized with ability to prioritize work and manage competing priorities in a collaborative manner
  • A clear commitment to equity of opportunity, supported by a record of impact in area relevant to the Foundation’s evolving strategy, as well as for a genuine intention to live and uplift diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Experience with impact measurement, evaluation tools and donor reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word; philanthropy records systems database technology such as RE or Foundant
  • Commitment to excellent service, both internally and externally

 

Other:

The Community Foundation operates in a hybrid working environment with staff working in-office three days per week and the opportunity to work two days remote per week if in good standing. 

 

 

 

 

Compensation:

To be determined based upon experience and qualifications within the anticipated salary of $85,000-$90,000. This position is exempt and employee is eligible for the Foundation’s competitive health and benefits plan:
