In 2023, the 501(c)(3) private nonprofit research institute Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) became wholly affiliated with Parallax, expanding our organization's services to include space and aerospace advanced technology research and development and workforce development.
In this position, the Program Manager will be responsible for managing technology-based economic development projects of moderate risk and complexity or performing task manager responsibility for larger, more complex technology-based economic development (TBED) programs. This position is involved in several TBED programs simultaneously that may be at various stages of customer engagement, from concept to completion, proposal development, award negotiations, project implementation, conclusion, final reporting, and project close-out. Additionally, this position will play a key operational role for our TBED projects, managing initial intake and assessment of new projects as well as client company management for clients who are involved in existing programs or those who can benefit from our program services. Projects may range in value, scope, and complexity and involve a variety of stakeholders from industry, academia, government, and the non-profit sector.
In addition to that, a typical day-in-the-life of a Parallax Program Manager includes:
- Overseeing TBED programs of moderate risk and complexity or having deputy responsibility for larger or more complex TBED programs
- Accountable for the day-to-day tactical duties for a low to moderately complex technology-based economic development program
- Accountable for supporting the implementation of program plans and work activities (schedule, budget, quality of deliverables) of technology-based economic development projects
- Managing technical and financial performance on assigned projects or project tasks
- Facilitating the results of multi-functional project teams including managing expectations of all team participants and providing input to the annual performance management and evaluations of project staff
- Developing and nurturing internal/external customer relationships on projects, including preparing and presenting presentations internally and to external customers to provide reviews and status updates on project deliverables, cost, and schedule.
- Managing intake processes for new clients receiving business and technical support by using the respective customer tracking system to perform tasks such as:
- Document business inquiries and interactions using a customer marketing or customer relationship management (CRM) system
- Track new candidate inquiries
- Maintaining continued engagement with all clients to enable tracking of their continued progress across our business support programs
- Assisting OAI and Parallax Senior Staff in providing technical support and business advisory services to businesses
- Drafting correspondence and promotional communications or conducting outreach calling to solicit customers and event participants or promote events
- Directing clients and potential clients requesting information or support regarding OAI and Parallax programs to the staff resource(s) to answer their questions or provide clients with more detailed information
Ideally, you are looking for your next long-term challenge and have these skill?
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business Management discipline and 4 years of program management experience
- A minimum of 5 years of program-related or prior management experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting and leading programs in technology-based economic development
- Ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary personnel and teams
- Proven record of managing a project budget and schedule
- Candidate should have strong oral and written communications skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Must be a US Citizen
Furthermore, do you have, or want to develop these skills?
- Graduate degree in Engineering, Business Management, Law, or other related field from an accredited college or university with at least 2 years program management and/or technology-based economic development experience
- Small business advisory and/or entrepreneurial experience – preference is with technology-based or technology-enabled businesses or technology-based economic development organization(s)
- Innovation development experience including in the areas of technology transfer and commercialization
- Knowledge of workforce development and talent initiatives
- Experience working as part of or in collaboration with organizations in a state’s entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem
- An understanding of capital sources available to help startups and scale businesses and organizations of all types involved with technology-based economic development
