The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra is seeking an experienced Data Specialist to join our Philanthropy team. This position is responsible for managing the fundraising database and data entry, as well as executing all data queries and reports, quality control and assisting with communications in relation to donor cultivation and stewardship.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work closely with the Director of Philanthropy Operations to provide a broad range of data and information services in support of the Philanthropy team.
• Accurately enter, maintain and retrieve data from database and other sources to sort and organize for more detailed analysis. Perform database maintenance and quality improvement through regular clean-up tasks and audits, merging accounts and identifying data elements that require annual review and updates.
• Ensure consistent implementation and recommend improvements of up-to-date policies and processes, including address changes and updates, record deceasing, duplicate record and relationship management.
• Provide support with gift processing and acknowledgement, data entry, and data maintenance. Oversee coding of gifts, reconcile daily, maintain codes for campaigns, appeals, sources.
• Create queries and special reports as needed to help with donor and prospect engagement and plans for annual fund growth through retention and increased giving.
• Manage the generation of Philanthropy reports as needed, including mailing lists and all donor segmentation lists, attendance lists, and donor recognition lists.
• Complete administrative tasks that support general Philanthropy operations and increase effectiveness of gift officers and other team members.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
• Experience in a non-profit fundraising environment strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in fund development software such as Raiser’s Edge, Tessitura or Altru, particularly related to data entry and extraction procedures preferred. Experience in WordFly or Prospect2 a plus.
• High-level of proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word and Outlook. Ability to work with pivot tables and vlookup in Excel a plus.
• Strong attention to detail is needed, along with analytical, systems and critical thinking skills to evaluate data. Knowledge of best practices related to constituent records management, data entry, and gift processing is preferred.
• Highly capable of handling multiple tasks, projects and timelines, including the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills when interacting with both internal and external customers. An affinity for live musical performance and orchestral music is preferred.
