POSITION SUMMARY

The Major Gifts Officer will manage a portfolio of approximately 125+ major gift donors, developing and driving strategies to achieve priority fundraising goals with a focus on major gifts ($10,000+) and help identifying principal gifts ($100,000+). The MGO is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting high-net worth donors and prospects to ensure a strong base of perpetual financial support. Reporting to the Director of Campaigns, the MGO will work with the Chief Advancement Officer and Individual Gifts Team in building relationships with a strong portfolio of donors and will successfully engage prospects via the moves management process. Professionalism, follow-through, and passion for relationship-building are key to this critical position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for raising donations at the major ($10,000+) and principal gift level, making face-to-face solicitations, to optimize fundraising success and help fulfill the organization’s mission and strategic objectives.

Maintain and manage a personal portfolio of 125+ major gift donors and prospects through identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.

Design and implement innovative strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit high-net worth donors. Direct and participate in the cultivation and solicitation of major gift prospects.

Effectively prepare meeting materials, stewardship reports and major gift solicitations including, but not limited to high-quality solicitation materials, proposals and investment decks. Manage and support communication and donor interactions with Discovery Place leadership.

Analyze and augment prospect research with a keen understanding of moves management to steward donors towards major gifts.

Provide strong, creative, energetic, and strategic philanthropic acumen to meet short- and long-term fundraising goals.

Lead efforts to develop positive, lifelong relationships between organization and donors and provides opportunities for meaningful donor involvement and engagement. Manage stewardship for existing and future major gifts donors and stewardship of other donor segments as needed.

Work collaboratively across museums, departments, programs, and leadership to help achieve fundraising success.

Use Sales Force and other technology tools to track and manage donor/prospect portfolio and monitor individual results toward fundraising goal; adhere to timely reporting of results to ensure accuracy of the fundraising pipeline and year-end projection forecasts. Maintain current and accurate files on all individual donors.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND WORK DUTIES:

Perform other duties as needed from time to time may be determined necessary for the well-being of the total operations.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

3+ years of experience working in one or more of the following: professional fundraising experience, museum fundraising and major gifts.

A problem-solving, can-do attitude with top notch planning and prioritizing skills.

Ability to work under pressure, balance multiple projects simultaneously and meet performance and fundraising goals Important.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with strong proofreading abilities. Maintain diplomacy and confidentiality with donor information.

Ability to work both as a team member and independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, results-oriented environment.

Enthusiasm for identifying and recruiting new supporters.

Understands how to prioritize multiple competing projects and demands. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Meets challenges with resourcefulness.

Displays a “team player” attitude and upholds the core values of Discovery Place.

Ability to work some nights and weekends as required for departmental/institutional events.

Follows policies and procedures; completes administrative tasks correctly and on time.

Assists in achieving department goals and objectives.

Ability to travel to Museum locations (Charlotte, Huntersville, Rockingham).

Commitment to and enthusiasm for Discovery Place’s mission and lifelong learning

Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:

Must be able to lift boxes up to 20 lbs.

Must be able to drive or have transportation to our other Museum locations (Charlotte, Huntersville and Rockingham).

Walking, standing, and sitting during the day at various locations.
