Description

Skyland Trail, a nonprofit mental health residential treatment program for adults and adolescents in Atlanta, is seeking Certified Peer Specialist

Scope:

To offer peer support to current clients at Skyland Trail and group facilitation as part of our day treatment program. CPS will assist with coordination of Skyland Trail outings and support other CPS's in their daily work with client care. This CPS position will also support Day Coaches, as needed.

Duties:

To participate in the milieu {through groups, meetings, outings or individual peer support sessions), serving as a mentor and peer support for clients receiving care.

To collaborate with clinical staff to identify urgent issues and to help improve the services offered to clients.

To facilitate weekly groups for current clients as part of our day treatment program.

To coordinate and support other CPS staff (Day Coaches) to assist with their Day Coach responsibilities {as needed and scheduled) such as making sure clients are aware and get to their scheduled appointments and groups and crisis support and skills coaching.

To coordinate and support other CPS staff (Alumni Coordinator) to assist with alumni program, family orientation, "client success stories" as part of other program activities (STEP, Family Orientation , core group relevant to specific track).

To support communication with alumni about upcoming events at Skyland Trail. To complete all documentation in accordance with guidelines.

To communicate with other clinical staff regarding any client issues that arise during interactions with current clients.

To coordinate outings from various recovery tracks on a monthly basis.

To participate on planning/event committee's (AITG, Alumni Celebration, etc.) appropriate for alumni participation .

To practice ethically and to comply with facility policies and accreditation standards (i.e., Joint Commission, ORS, etc.).

To meet with client s prior to discharge AMA.

Other duties as assigned, including administrative duties such as support with UDS t racking .

Reports to: Director of Adjunctive Therapies

Competencies: This position should have sufficient preparedness in the following areas:

  • Identify clients in need of additional clinical support
  • Group facilitation and curriculum development skills
  • Tailor peer support sessions to meet client's needs, working collaboratively with other clinical team member
  • Participate in continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of CPR and First Aid Procedure
  • Good Driving Record
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures for fire, disaster and unplanned incidents
  • Able to complete documentation in complete and timely manner in electronic health record
  • Demonstrates urgency, follow through, and ownership of work
  • Communicates effectively with all stakeholders
  • Practices ethically and professionally
  • Knowledge and ability to enforce HIPAA standards and Skyland Trail Confidentiality Policies

Qualifications:

  • Certified Peer Specialist - required
  • Prior experience in peer support role for clients with chronic mental illness preferred.
