As an Adventure Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of campers while they participate in high ropes activities, including the zipline and giant swing. You will follow YMCA safety protocols and guidelines, conduct thorough equipment checks, and provide clear instructions to participants. In addition to maintaining a secure environment, you will foster a positive, encouraging atmosphere that promotes fun and builds confidence among campers. Strong leadership, communication skills, and a commitment to safety are essential in this role. 

Job Duties: 

  • Ensure camper safety by closely monitoring participants during high ropes activities, including the zipline and giant swing, and enforcing safety protocols. 

  • Conduct pre-activity briefings to explain safety rules, equipment usage, and proper techniques to campers before they begin their ropes course experience. 

  • Inspect and maintain equipment regularly to ensure all high ropes gear, such as harnesses and helmets, is in good condition and meets safety standards. 

  • Supervise and support campers during their participation in high ropes activities, offering encouragement and helping them build confidence and teamwork. 

  • Communicate with camp leadership and report any safety concerns, incidents, or maintenance needs to ensure the smooth operation of the high ropes course.

Job Qualifications: 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older. 

  • Must complete camp-mandated ropes training before the camp season begins to ensure familiarity with safety protocols and equipment. 

  • Previous experience in high ropes or adventure courses is preferred, with a strong understanding of safety procedures and risk management. 

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to guide and motivate campers while maintaining a safe and fun environment.

Schedule: 

  • Monday – Friday from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM  

  • 9-week summer camp program starting June 30th (flexible with weeks) 

  • Campers ages 6-14 will cycle through adventure elements throughout each day. A specific schedule will be provided upon hiring.
