Job Summary
Provide direct support to patients and staff as requested by Health Center staff members.  Direct support includes interpretation in-person and over the phone, and translation of documents for health center use under supervision by the Medical Director and Health Operations Manager.  Also responsible for coordinating and scheduling immigration physicals according to office policy/procedure.  Responsible to Health Operations Manager and Medical Director of Catholic Charities of Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton Counties.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide English-Spanish interpretation services for Spanish-speaking patients, both during medical office visits and over the phone telehealth visits.
  • Provide English-Spanish translation services for paperwork and patient messages, as applicable.
  • Assist support staff with English-Spanish interpretation and translation needs, as applicable.
  • Manage and organize all paperwork and patient scheduling related to immigration physicals.
  • Accept and record payment for immigration physicals.
  • Assist support staff as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school education. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience: Experience in a medical setting preferred.  Prior use of Epic or other electronic health record preferred.
  • Required Licenses, Certifications, and Training: A valid Michigan Driver License, access to reliable transportation and maintain appropriate insurance.  Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Spanish demonstrated by educational achievement in second language, or a language proficiency test, as deemed appropriate by Medical Director.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • This position is on-site and may not be eligible for remote work
  • Attendance at occasional meetings or events during regular business hours is required
  • The role involves working with sensitive or potentially traumatic information and direct interaction with individuals or families in crisis
  • Physical requirements include frequent use of hands for handling objects, tools, or controls; talking, bending, sitting, reaching, and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 30 pounds
  • Vision requirements include close-up work, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
