Columbia College Chicago a private urban institution of over 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students, four-year College offering a distinctive curriculum that blends liberal arts, creative and media arts and business is currently searching for an ACCOMPANIST - THEATRE.

POSITION SUMMARY

The part-time, Accompanist, in their area of musical expertise, provides musical support/accompaniment for scene study, vocal and audition preparation classes, and rehearsals/performances. 

The accompanist may use instruments provided by the School of Theatre and Dance, or they may supplement these with their own instruments/technology. The position reports to the assigned instructor, and the Music Director. 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Arrive on time, ready to play at start of class.
• Be clear on required times/dates and material that needs to be prepared.
• Play piano as required per the published class or rehearsal schedule.
• Accompany additional academic events such as Manifest, Senior Showcase as assigned.
• Assist students with class, audition, and/or performance preparation as required by instructor or director.

• Previous experience as a rehearsal or classroom accompanist required.
• Demonstrated proficiency and sensitivity in working on different styles and periods of music, composers, etc.
• Demonstrate the ability to cultivate appropriate, collegial relationships with faculty, students, and staff.
• Proficiency in transposition, accompaniment, and recommendations on best keys and/or songs for students.
• Must be attentive and engaged during class time, and able to accommodate students’ diversity, supporting equity in the classroom.

Position Minimum Hourly Rate or Annual Salary: $41.00 

Position Maximum Hourly Rate or Annual Salary: $51.00 

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including department budget.
