The Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford Medicine is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator Associate to work under supervision of Professor Joyce Liao. Our research focuses on eye-brain diseases that cause vision and neurological disability, aiming to understand optic nerve diseases, identify biomarkers, and test therapies.
The Clinical Research Coordinator Associate will perform clinical research tasks such as consenting patients, obtaining clinical information, organizing databases, and working with research samples including saliva, blood, and tissue. The role involves collaboration with faculty and research teams, reporting regularly to Dr. Liao to ensure research success.
We seek individuals with strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and interest in eye-brain diseases. Preference is given to those interested in a position lasting two years or longer and with clinical research experience in eye-brain diseases.
Duties include:
- Serve as primary contact with research participants, sponsors, and regulatory agencies.
- Determine eligibility and obtain consent from study participants.
- Coordinate collection and processing of study specimens.
- Manage patient and laboratory data, develop study documents, and complete case report forms.
- Ensure compliance with research protocols, review and audit case report forms, and prepare regulatory submissions.
- Assemble study kits, monitor scheduling, and attend monitoring meetings with sponsors.
- Monitor expenditures, adhere to study budgets, and resolve billing issues.
- Interact with the principal investigator to ensure patient safety and proper study conduct.
- Document and record patient and research data per institutional and regulatory standards.
- Participate in monitor visits and regulatory audits.
- Other duties as assigned.
The expected pay range is $31.84 to $37.79 per hour.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): Two-year college degree and two years related work experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES: Certification from Society of Clinical Research Associates or Clinical Research Professionals is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, and use fine grasping.
- Occasionally sit, reach above shoulders, perform desk tasks, use a telephone, lift up to 40 pounds.
- Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, grasp forcefully, or lift over 40 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Occasional evening and weekend hours.
