Job Description
AARP Services, Inc., founded in 1999, is a wholly-owned taxable subsidiary of AARP. AARP Services manages the provider relationships for and performs quality control oversight of the wide range of products and services that carry the AARP name and are made available by independent providers as benefits to AARP’s millions of members. The provider offers currently span health products, financial products, travel and leisure products, and life event services. Specific products include Medicare supplemental insurance; credit cards, auto and home, mobile home and motorcycle insurance, life insurance and annuities; member discounts on rental cars, cruises, vacation packages and lodging; special offers on technology and gifts; pharmacy services and legal services. AARP Services also engages in new product development activities for AARP and provides certain consulting services to outside companies.
The Product Development (PD) team at AARP leads initiatives to expand existing and identify new products and services to add to AARP’s membership product. For this position, the PD intern will lead an effort to identify AI tools and develop prompts to accelerate the team’s core capabilities and processes. During this internship, AARP will be committed to your growth and cultivating your continued learning and development. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of Summer 2025.
Responsibilities
- Gain an understanding of the PD team’s goals, expected outcomes, processes, and deliverables
- Research AI tools best suited to aid the PD team in accomplishing its goals
- Develop prompts for each PD team capability that are meant to be recycled for new assignments
- Own one or more PD assignment(s) to identify and/or execute a product expansion opportunity for the AARP Membership where the AI prompts are deployed as live use-cases, deliver on the assignment, as well as lessons learned from the use of the AI tools
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university as rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or postdoctoral students, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship
- Pursuing a degree in business, data science, computer science, artificial intelligence, or a related field
- Proficient in AI platforms and tools
- Experience with prompt engineering and integrating prompts for specific tasks
- Strong proficiency in MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Certifications related to AI or prompt engineering are preferred but not required
- Must be a self-starter and adaptable, with the ability to work under tight deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
- Ability to work well with diverse populations, including gender, race, and sexual orientation

Hybrid Work Environment
AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
