Description

We are seeking a Part Time and On-Call CLA role, 2 positions at the San Diego Rescue Mission, North County Lighthouse in Oceanside.

The Part time role offers the ability to work 16-24 hours a week. Shifts are 3:00pm to 11:30pm and 11:00pm to 7:30am
The On Call role offers the ability to work a variety of shift options on a weekly basis. Shifts include 7:00am to 3:30pm, 3:00pm to 11:30pm and 11:00pm to 7:30am

A Community Life Ambassador (CLA) plays a key role in furthering the Mission's commitment to excellence in service and Christlike compassion. This position supports program objectives, ensures operational integrity, and reflects our values in every interaction with clients, staff, and the public and promotes community building, student/guest health, safety and accountability. Community Life Ambassadors support students/guests in their daily needs and creates a stable and safe environment necessary for a holistic approach to recovery and healing.

The CLA position is designed to give you an entry level opportunity to leadership in ministry. CLAs also involves tasks such as cleaning, laundry, organizing/sorting, intakes, discharges, mediation, crisis intervention, rounds, meal delivery, stripping of beds, etc. CLAs serve all Mission Programs and promote Student & Guest health, safety, and accountability and provide support to the students in order to create a stable, safe environment necessary to pursue healing.

Key Responsibilities

Demonstrates an understanding (or openness to) and implementation of trauma-informed practices and various de-escalation techniques while interacting with guests and students in the delivery of services.
Monitors assigned areas (while also supporting other areas as necessary), including but not limited to: bag checks, room checks & inspections, laundry, unit cleanliness, hourly radio check- ins, meal supervision and support.
Provides leadership and/or intervention in emergency situations.
Collaboratively works with other CLAs to meet organization and guest needs.
Identify and report APS and CPS concerns as necessary
Intentionally connects with guests/students to provide relational and spiritual support.
Able to recognize suicidal/homicidal ideation and other crises and intercede by providing trauma- informed crisis interventions to ensure individual and group safety.
Support guests/students in maintaining program-specific compliance including: attendance to various program requirements, drug & alcohol screening, smoke breaks, curfew, and encouraging appropriate personal hygiene.
Ensure guests/students are treated with dignity and compassion.
Maintain and adhere to strong professional social service ethics and boundaries.
Exercise good judgment for the well-being of guests/students when decisions arise that may demand altering the rules.
To provide leadership in the facility and promote student and guest safety, while creating an environment that is trauma informed.

To provide student/guest services and engagement through appropriate ministry and relational connection in support of maintaining program compliance.

To provide administrative support and other documentation as needed.

To represent our Mission, Vision and Values and continue to grow professionally and spiritually

Qualifications

Skills / Requirements

Education: Minimum: High School Diploma

Experience: Experience with individuals experiencing homelessness, various addiction challenges, mental illness and/or dual diagnosis (1 year is preferred). Nonprofit experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

Calmly and sensitively employ appropriate de-escalation techniques with residents.

Coordinate and/or direct a variety of complex tasks and assignments simultaneously and successfully.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Provide information to the public by answering questions and requests; regular, timely attendance.

Physical Activities include sitting, speaking, listening, bending, carrying, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, sitting, squatting, twisting, walking, typing, lifting a minimum of 30 pounds, sit or stand for extended periods of time, operate office equipment such as computer, printer, telephone, fax, drive vehicles, trucks, forklift or other equipment, walk on uneven ground.
