PROJECT RISE AmeriCorps Service
Member Title: Project Rise AmeriCorps Member (Multiple Positions Available)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours, approximately 9:30am to 5:30pm or 10:30am to 6:30pm (dependent on position)
AmeriCorps Program: Project RISE (Refugee and Immigrant Success through Education) is an AmeriCorps effort that focuses on educational services to address the significant literacy gap in the DeKalb County refugee and immigrant community, among both youth and their parents. In Project RISE, 13 full-time AmeriCorps members serving an 11-
month service cycle will leverage community volunteers and support refugee and immigrant self-sufficiency by offering individualized direct service focusing on employment, education, healthcare, cultural integration, and financial self-sufficiency.
All member activities include a focus on education and literacy, with all members serving at least one-third of their time in after-school/summer tutoring and two-thirds of their time delivering core program services in different departments focusing on promoting self-sufficiency and success for refugees and immigrants in Georgia. All full-time members will complete a minimum of 1700 hours from September 2025 to July 2026. Service positions are contingent upon New American Pathways receiving the AmeriCorps grant award.
Program Requirements:
- Full time (40 hours per week) 11-month commitment
- Starting September 2025 through July 2026
- Must complete 1700 service hours and finish the terms of the commitment (all 11 months) to qualify for the education award
- Submit to a criminal history background check upon hire
- Participate in day/evening/weekend service projects, overnight retreats, and other national service events, as required
- Driver’s license, good driving record, and access to reliable personal vehicle required
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Skills and Competencies:
- A personal passion to support refugees and immigrants and a commitment to service
- Sensitivity to people of all cultures, ethnicities, and religious backgrounds
- Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Teams, Outlook, and Word
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Adaptability and ability to work independently, multi-task, and maintain focus
- Competent in being a positive, active member of a team in a multicultural environment
- Preferred bachelor’s degree or higher
- Preferred proficiency in foreign languages
- Preferred experience working with youth and speakers of other languages
Benefits:
- AmeriCorps living stipend $20,000 for the 11 months ($833 paid every 2 weeks, pretax)
- The Segal Education Award of $7,395 is granted at the end of the service term after successful completion (1700 hours and all commitment requirements). This education award can be used to pay for existing or future student loans or be used to pay tuition at accredited colleges, universities, and technical schools within 7 years post-service.

The AmeriCorps Positions for 2025-2026:
- Welcome Co-Op Member - Lead the clothing and donation center at the Shop of Hope at the Welcome Co-Op assisting individuals and families with shopping for gently used items, engaging volunteers with sorting in-kind donations, and advocating for clients
- Community Resource Member - Assist clients with applying for and obtaining community resources such as energy assistance, rental assistance, food assistance, diaper/hygiene items, clothing, library cards, health insurance, childcare vouchers, and discounted internet/phone service.
- Job Readiness Education Member - Assist refugee and immigrant adults with learning English skills needed for work, coordinate volunteer tutors, nurture partnerships with employers, provide job skills training, and help clients set SMART goals
- Preferred Communities Member – Provide support to clients with additional needs by assisting with the scheduling, transportation, interpretation, and accompaniment of medical appointments, and educate clients on health access resources
