Summary:
This position involves supporting the Divisional Controller in managing the general accounting operations, specifically focusing on research accounting related to grants and contracts. Additionally, the role entails leading business initiatives such as improving processes, enhancing systems, and conducting analytical activities across the Finance & Accounting departments. The position is responsible for handling financial administration tasks for a diverse portfolio of private and public grants and contracts, ensuring they are managed in a financially responsible manner and complying with relevant rules and regulations set by both the sponsoring agency and the company.
Job Responsibilities:
- Managing accounting functions related to research grants, collaborating closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure proper accounting, reporting, and management of grants.
- Assisting in the development of the annual budget by grant for our research center Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute (LFKRI).
- Tracking and monitoring spending and commitments by grant, resolving inquiries as needed.
- Preparing financial reports for various grants and ensuring compliance with filing requirements.
- Preparing schedules and documentation for internal and external audits, maintaining relationships with auditors, addressing research issues, and providing supporting data.
- Participating in general accounting and month-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial analysis, ensuring timely and accurate completion in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Supporting processes that oversee the appropriate recording of expenses to sponsored projects and the general ledger to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and sponsor reporting requirements
- Ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial data, assisting in the preparation of financial reports and billings to sponsors, reconciling funding receipts and accounts receivable collection, and participating in account close-outs.
- Leading various projects within the Finance department, including process improvements and system upgrades.
- Providing customer service to internal and external stakeholders, offering support regarding financial administration and general ledger accounting.
The annual rate for this position is between $93,000 and $103,000.
