Overview
The Community Services Manager serves as the Direct Assistance and Safety Coordinators. The Community Services Manager is responsible for overseeing and developing the Food Pantry, Community Kitchen, Personal Needs, and Clothing Closet ("Direct Assistance") in a safe and welcoming environment. Responsibilities include the daily management of employees, volunteers and interns, developing, planning, and implementing strategies for program continuation and growth, while creating and supporting engaging experiences for volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Manage all staff, volunteers and interns within Direct Assistance and Reception areas
- Maintain complete and accurate client records
- Responsible for collaborating with the Finance and Development Departments to ensure appropriate funding levels for Direct Assistance
- Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with the Greater Lansing Food Bank
- Completes all reporting requirements for Direct Assistance Programs to comply with USDA, MDHHS, Greater Lansing Food Bank and grant programs
- Maintains relationships with Community Partners donating goods to the Direct Assistance Programs
- Seeks Community Partners to support the Direct Assistance Program needs
- Purchasing, including ordering and shopping in store, for all Direct Assistance Programs
- Oversee the operation of the Open Distribution Program, if restarted in the future
- Community outreach for overflow of donated goods and immediate needs
- Manage the collection and record of donated goods for the Community Kitchen, Food Pantry, Personal Needs, and Clothing Closet
- Coordinate various licenses and certifications required in the Community Kitchen and Food Pantry, such as ServSafe and Civil Rights Certifications
- Keep the Community Kitchen, Food Pantry, Personal Needs, and Clothing Closet in an organized manner that is clean and to the standards of the Department of Health
- Instruct and supervise volunteers and community service workers in Direct Assistance
- Work closely with the Volunteer Manager to provide engaging volunteer experiences. Provide Volunteer Manager with daily volunteer support opportunities needed to help ensure all Direct Assistance areas are properly staffed during operating hours.
- Maintains safe and welcoming environment for guests, employees and volunteers, deescalating conflicts amongst guests and being the liaison with local police.

Qualifications and requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish fluency highly preferred
- Prior supervisory experience preferred
- Valid Michigan Driver's License with clean driving record
- Practicing Catholic preferred, or a willingness to support and uphold the values and mission of a Catholic organization
