Cleveland State University seeks to attract an active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber. The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs invites applications for the position of assistant or associate professor of nonprofit management. The start date is either August 17, 2020 or January 2, 2021. Candidates who demonstrate interest and relevant qualifications will be considered to direct our Master in Nonprofit Administration and Leadership program. The area of research specialization within the nonprofit field is open; candidates with the ability to teach among courses focused on nonprofit leadership and management, diversity, organizational behavior, program evaluation, management of community development institutions, or fundraising and philanthropy are encouraged to apply. The Levin College is nationally recognized by U.S. News and World Report in urban policy (#5), local government management (#14), and nonprofit management (#21). We prepare our graduates to lead in diverse and dynamic urban environments. Located in downtown Cleveland, Cleveland State University enrolls over 17,000 students. The Levin College is home to the Center for Public and Nonprofit Management, which provides professional development to the regions’ nonprofit managers and leaders and engages faculty in research and training programs. Northeast Ohio is well-known for its philanthropy (34 major grant-making foundations), world class arts organizations, and healthcare institutions, as well as its pressing and ongoing social and economic challenges which require cross-sector approaches to problem solving. The region boasts over 370 major nonprofit organizations and thousands of additional tax-exempt organizations. The Levin College is within walking distance of The Cleveland Foundation and United Way offices; Playhouse Square (the second largest theater district in the country); and Ideastream, home of the region’s PBS and NPR stations. The Levin College enjoys strong and long-term connections to foundation and nonprofit organizations in the region.
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctoral degree from an accredited university in nonprofit administration, public administration, public policy, management, or a related discipline is required. ABD candidates will be considered with the expectation that they will have the PhD awarded by July 1, 2020 for an August 2020 hire or a December 1 for a January 2021 hire. Candidates for associate professor must demonstrate a substantial record of publication commensurate with the rank’s requirements as stipulated by College bylaws and review. Candidates for assistant professor must demonstrate the potential for such a research record. Also essential is a demonstrated commitment to student achievement and fostering a diverse student population.
Preferred Qualifications
Practitioner experience and the ability to secure external research funding is valued, but not required.
