Goodwill SWMI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Our nearly 300 dedicated team members help achieve our mission of improving the community by providing employment, education, training and support services tailored to individual needs across a six county territory. At Goodwill SWMI, the work we do makes a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve and, in turn, in the communities in which we live.
Goodwill SWMI manages ten retail stores (with attached, attended donation centers and one stand-alone donation center), Contract Manufacturing Operations as well as Custodial & Janitorial business units. These business operations provide stability to our organization that is not always enjoyed by nonprofit organizations solely funded by outside sources.

JOB DESCRIPTION
General Responsibilities
The Truck Helper assists the truck driver in pick-up and delivery of merchandise to stores and warehouses. Truck helper will also be certified as a forklift trainer. The Truck Helper must display the core values of Goodwill Industries – Positivity, People, Collaboration and Success – in all aspects of the job.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Functions
Essential duties, responsibilities and functions include but are not limited to:
- Assist in pickup or delivery of merchandise from stores and warehouses.
- Assist Truck Driver with back-up and parking maneuvers; help secure vehicle and/or trailer according to safety regulations
- Load and unload trucks including positioning of merchandise in dock area
- Assist Truck Driver in ensuring that all materials are delivered on time without damage to merchandise, pallets, gaylords, cages, etc.
- Assist truck driver in making sure all store orders are loaded correctly on truck.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks at stores and warehouses.
- Accurately reporting inventory at warehouse to supervisor.
- Perform all duties according to safety guidelines and procedures
- Assist with training new drivers with whatever task is needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work with others and be a team player
Ability to follow instructions
Ability to present a neat, clean appearance and relate to the public
Ability to read signs and perform simple arithmetic
Experience working on loading dock preferred
Obtain a forklift certification as a trainer
Ability to maintain warehouse inventory efficiently
Wearing seat belt at all times in trucks.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
Physical Requirements
Must be able to tolerate a variety of outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat, cold and wind
Must have no hearing limitations
Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, walk or kneel six or more hours per day; must be able to handle, reach, grasp, carry and manipulate objects safely; daily lifting and carrying of 50 lb. loads

Must pass a theft-related background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Must be able to work Monday thru Friday and occasional weekends
