The Arc of King County serves all people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities (IDD) across the lifespan, from prenatal diagnosis through end-of-life care.
Our programs include:
- Information and Family Support for individuals with IDD, their family members, and community;
- Supported Living Services for adults living in the community; and
- Public Policy and Civic Engagement for people who want to ensure communities and public services work for people with IDD

Position Description
The Director of Development is an essential position supporting The Arc of King County to achieve financial sustainability and growth. By overseeing the development team and strategy, guiding strategic initiatives, and managing the major gifts and planned giving portfolios. They also collaborate on the annual fund and lead marketing and communications efforts, while fostering strong community partnerships.

Essential Functions
Strategic Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and manage the development team, providing strategic direction and overseeing performance.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy in alignment with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with the executive team to set and achieve annual fundraising targets.
Major Gifts and Planned Giving
- Oversee and grow the major gifts and planned giving portfolios, including identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors.
- Build and maintain relationships with key donors and prospects to secure significant contributions.
- Create and implement individualized solicitation strategies for high-net-worth donors.
Annual Fund
- Influence the strategy for annual giving campaigns to maximize donor participation and retention.
- Work with the development team to execute targeted appeals through direct mail, email, and social media.
Marketing and Communications Strategy
- Lead marketing and communications efforts to increase the organization’s visibility and drive donor engagement.
- Oversee the development of communications materials related to fundraising efforts, including digital and print content.
Community Partnerships
- Cultivate and manage relationships with community organizations, businesses, and local leaders to build a strong network of support.
- Represent the organization at community events and in public-facing roles to enhance the organization’s visibility and community presence.
Other duties may be assigned, as needed, to support the needs of the organization.
Physical and Other Requirements
- Ability to be productive and maintain prolonged attention in an open office environment
- Some presence in the office during work week is required
- Ability to use fine motor skills continuously
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds as needed
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time

Hours/Salary/Benefits
The Director of Development is a full-time exempt position with an annual salary range of $115,000 to $135,000 and is eligible for benefits, including: paid personal leave accrual, paid holidays both observed and floating, 401(K) with employer matching, Employer paid: Life insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance in the amount of two times your annual salary up to $150k, Long Term Disability Insurance, Employee Assistance Program.
