Position Summary
The Development Manager is responsible for personally raising $425,000 annually and overseeing and managing key development functions such as but not limited to: Managing a Donor Portfolio, Donor Stewardship, Annual Giving, Donor Relations and Grants. This position has a high level of interaction with all Caritas of Austin departments, Board Members, and constituents. The Development Manager manages 5 employees:
- Development Data Analyst (DDA)– full time
- Development Data Clerk (DDC)– part time
- 3 - Grants and Contracts Strategist– full time
This full-time position requires extreme attention to detail, superior managerial skills, efficient time management skills, strong public speaking skills, and the ability to multi-task. Must accurately complete assignments and special projects, be willing to take on additional responsibilities, be adept at working with numbers, effectively communicate ideas, problem-solve, undertake challenges with enthusiasm and dedication and work optimally under pressure and deadlines with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (inclusive but not exhaustive):
Fundraising Goals
- In conjunction with CDO, Create and manage a comprehensive year-round development Revenue and Expense plan that aligns with Caritas of Austin’s organizational goals, Keys To Well-Being Campaign fundraising goals and annual fundraising goals.
- Use industry standards, develop an annual strategy for current and prospective Leadership Donors ($1,000 - $9,999)
- Track and document the plans and progress for all Mid-tier Donors.
- Set strategic financial and cultivation goals for each Mid-tier Donor along with milestone dates.
- Develop a donor stewardship cultivation plan for Mid-tier Donors.
- Plan, develop and implement Caritas Champions
Annual Giving & Donor Relations
- Cultivate relationships and maintain ongoing contact with annual giving individuals through face-to-face visits, phone, email and written correspondence.
- In coordination with the Marketing & Communications Team (MARCOM), assist by providing input on the yearly mailing calendar to ensure that internal and external mailings are sent to the appropriate constituent groups in a timely manner and in coordination with our stewardship plan to ensure that constituents are not over-mailed.
- In coordination with the CDO and Director of MARCOM, provides oversight and donor detail to the direct mail vendor. This includes working with the DDA to accurately compile donor records as requested by the vendor; producing and submitting accurate direct mail detailed summary reports as requested by the direct mail firm.
- Evaluate and coordinate revisions to the existing donor acknowledgment process to ensure appropriate, consistent, and equitable acknowledgment of gifts at all levels.
Donor Stewardship
- Review Donor Stewardship Plan annually with development staff and CEO to ensure effective stewardship of constituent groups.
- Oversee and manage the donor stewardship process, collaborate with staff to ensure that stewardship of appropriate groups is being implemented as planned, which includes the execution of the written stewardship plan and processes for tracking stewardship tasks and initiatives.
Department Management
- Oversee all Development Invoicing & Acknowledgement.
- Annual Fundraising Goal Setting with each development fundraiser under their management.
- Track actual year to date, quarterly and monthly fundraising.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including other donors and funding sources.
- Oversee development reports as needed/requested, including all Board Development reports.
- Participate in all development budget & revenue meetings.
- Lead development managers in the annual budget development process
Leadership
- Participate in the monthly Development Orientation.
- Lead annual Development Team training direction with input from CDO and Development Managers.
- Is able to quickly assess crises and immediately and effectively resolve the issues.
- Assist cooperatively in agency planning, communication, problem-solving, and program enhancement.
- Is an active participant in ensuring that Caritas meets its strategic goals and is responsive to changing community needs.
- Communicate proactively with other departments to ensure Caritas teams are working in tandem with development thereby assuring quality and communication of needs.
- As directed by CDO, represent Caritas on various task forces or committees.
Supervision
- Hire, train, supervise, develop and evaluate direct reports on a regular basis, providing timely feedback and priorities.
- Identify professional development needs of supervisees on an annual basis.
- Understand and adhere to hiring policies and procedures.
- Ensure like functions are being positively and appropriately conducted by development supervisors for the staff they supervise.
- Maintain effective and appropriate communication with all supervisees.
- Has a good working knowledge of HR policies in the Employee Handbook and is able to guide staff in procedurally applying those policies.
Organization Support Functions
- Participate in agency-wide planning and training functions.
- Comply with administrative procedures, reporting, and record keeping policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Chief Development Officer.
- Treat clients, staff, donors, volunteers and the general public with courtesy and respect.
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Non-Profit Management, Business, Marketing, Communications, Social Work, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum two years’ experience working in the nonprofit field or sales.
- Minimum one year experience in Grant writing/ management preferred
Computer Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Other Requirement(s)
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required.
Work Schedule and Special Events
- Regular – Normal work hours and days assigned based on a work week of 40 hours.
- Opportunity for hybrid work, with option to work from home one to two days per week (subject to supervisor approval and organization policy).
- Some events may be in the evening or on weekends. The annual Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot is on Thanksgiving Day, and this position will be required to work this day.
Salary/Benefits:
- Base Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000
