Job Description
Guided by the mission of the YMCA, the Wellness Director is responsible for all aspects of wellness
operation for the family center including personal training, group exercise, and the development of
wellness programs. Develops, plans and implements new programs, procedures and methods to
achieve strategic goals.
Qualifications
- BS in Health Science, Exercise Science, or a related field.
- 3-5 years working with health and wellness programs, personal training, and managing staff.
Essential Functions
Core Functions:
● Relationship Building – Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand individual’s goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
● Customer Service Excellence – Provide excellent customer service and positive communication to all customers, including but not limited to, members, participants, guests, volunteers, and fellow employees, by listening first and responding to their needs in a safe and effective manner.
● Role Model – Model and encourage the development and practice of the YMCA character values (Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility), performing all assigned duties with energy and enthusiasm. Abide by all personnel policies and guidelines, follow all reasonable directives issued by leadership, and uphold rules, regulations and safety standards associated with the YMCA.
● Annual Support Campaign – Provide support for the annual campaign and other special events when possible and as directed.
● Risk Management – Remain familiar with risk management procedures in the YMCA facility, which include but are not limited to: swimming pool rules and procedures, current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, child abuse prevention, and understanding specific responsibilities during fire, hurricane, tornado, or other emergency situations.
Job-Specific Functions:
● Promotes and incorporates the three YMCA focus areas in all program activities.
● Promotes, manages and assists in implementation of lifestyle related programs, also referred to as primary, secondary and tertiary prevention programs.
● Participates as Manager on Duty (MOD) at a branch.
● Responsible for collecting and reporting of accurate data for grant reporting.
● Responsible for ensuring signature Y-USA programs are followed and integrity of said programs is maintained.
● Participates in community-based programs that are consistent with the Y mission.
● Identifies and resolves problem areas to ensure member satisfaction.
● Organize wellness events at the YMCA and represent the YMCA at community events.
● Design and implement revenue generating wellness programs.
● Ensure the maintenance and cleaning of all wellness equipment is maintained to provide a safe environment to our members and staff.
● Conducts ongoing assessment of staff functions to determine required core competencies and skills; and designs and implements training as needed.
● Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, and supervising staff and volunteers.
● Actively participate in planning the annual budget; manage and implement the approved budget and take appropriate action to correct variances.
● Ensures proper implementation of procedures and effectively communicates changes to staff.
● Actively participate in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
● Other duties as assigned.

Required Certifications
- Personal Training Certification from ACE, ACSM, NASN, or NSCA, CPR, AED, and First Aid within first 90 days of employment.
