The CDC Foundation is seeking candidates for a full-time Epidemiologist I position to participate in building country and partner capacity on the design, implementation and analysis of a Mobile Phone Survey exploring risk factors for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). As a member of the Data for Health initiative, the Epidemiologist will help determine the feasibility, quality, validity and reliability of using mobile phones for NCD risk factor surveillance in low- and middle-income countries and develop a suite of globally standardized protocols.
The Epidemiologist position is an interdisciplinary role that brings together strong technical, analytical and project management skills, with knowledge of public health. The combined skills and experience are essential to ensure the strategic objectives of the project are met. The Epidemiologist will be hired by the CDC Foundation and assigned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) within the Global Health Center’s Division of Global Health Protection in the Global NCD Branch.
This position is based in Atlanta, GA and relocation expenses are not provided. Candidate must be comfortable with a hybrid working arrangement if requested by supervisor. Travel is required up to 20% of the time.

Duties and Responsibilities- Serve as technical advisor and subject matter expert to country representatives involved in the NCD Mobile Phone Survey. The Epidemiologist will work as the Data for Health team’s Point of Contact for countries implementing the NCD Mobile Phone Survey to coordinate timely in-country survey implementation. This includes management of survey procedures and logistics and coordinating communications.
- Coordinate with project partners to implement data collection in all countries, including communicating technical requirements to country representatives. Maintaining open communication and regular check-ins with country representatives to ensure the timely completion of program deliverables.
- Conduct in-country NCD Mobile Phone Survey project management and reporting to include tracking implementation progress, communicating updates at regular intervals and reporting monthly updates, milestones and process indicators.
- Participate with scientists and program consultants in various aspects of the study or survey design process, including search or review of the existing literature and data in a scientific area, and prepare and/or present summaries for a variety of purposes, monitor institutional review board clearances, design questionnaires and other data collection instruments, identify and analyze public health issues and their impact on public policies or scientific studies or surveys.
- Lead data analysis for individual country surveys and comparisons between surveys and across countries, including data management, cleaning and quality control.
- Create executive summaries, factsheets and other data dissemination materials as needed to present and distribute results of surveys to relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with epidemiologists and statisticians to develop joint analyses and publications using NCD Mobile Phone Survey data that require the use of sociological, behavioral science, demographic, and/or epidemiologic analytic techniques and evaluation, and application of the latest technology, to inform effective prevention programs and practice guidelines.
- Contribute information and recommendation to inform strategic planning for the project and determining system improvements.
- Other tasks as requested by leadership.

Qualifications- Master’s degree from an accredited university or college with a background in epidemiologic, demographic, sociological, behavioral science, and/or related fields with experience in international health surveys.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in epidemiology with direct experience in research, data management, data cleaning and analysis.
- Experience working with survey methodology, implementation and analysis in international settings.
- Proficiency in R, SAS, STATA, SPSS, and/or other statistical, sampling, data management and data analysis software.
- Expertise in quantitative and analytic methods for data collection, analysis, interpretation, report writing and publication.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to work with efficiency, diplomacy, and flexibility; and provide mentorship; and work in a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing, writing, and editing complex technical and scientific documents.
- Highly organized with demonstrated skills in working with competing priorities, time and project management and managing completing tasks under tight deadlines.
- Experience working with international partners, government officials, and working in low- and middle-income countries strongly preferred.
- Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.
- Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial, energetic, and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, donors, stakeholders, and partners.
- Sound judgment and maturity exemplified by consistent professionalism in dealing with individuals at all levels both internally and externally.
