Salary: $55,000-$65,000 per year

Position Description
The Development Officer is a high performer responsible for
effectively identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding annual and mid-level
gift donors. Building and managing a robust portfolio of donors and prospects,
the Development Officer is responsible for cultivating and securing gifts, that
will help advance CAN’s wide range of programs and operations.
Reporting to the Director of Development, this high achiever will lead and play an active role in creating
and implementing provincial wide fundraising campaigns and initiatives. They
will be accountable for meeting annual revenue objectives and is expected to
spend a great deal of time directly engaging with prospects and donors. They are
passionate for the cause and making a difference in the community.
Key Functions
Annual & Mid-Level Giving
- Develop and implement comprehensive plans for
identifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding annual gifts for
the assigned donor portfolio, including upgrading existing donors.
- Manage donor systems to facilitate effective transition from
event donations to annual giving.
- Lead the development of mid-major level gift cultivation/stewardship
events and initiatives, working in collaboration with Development Team staff
members.
- Develop structure for mid-major gift level giving programs
and recognition.
- Develop strategies to deepen relationships with event-based
and mid-size gift donors.
- Engage in face-to-face meetings and personalized donor-based
activities.
- Ensure that donors receive impeccable and personalized
stewardship, through tailored correspondence, reports, and updates in a timely
and professional manner.
- Develop fundraising materials such as proposals, briefing
notes, presentations, appeal letters, and other documents/materials.
- Lead and coordinate strategy and debrief meetings prior
to and after donor meetings.
- Conduct regular portfolio reviews to ensure that
relationships are advancing, and donor development activities are on track.
- Seek opportunities to encourage annual gift supporters to
participate in other development and CAN programs, such as sponsorship,
fundraising events, special appeals, and hosting activities.
Fundraising & Donor Relations
- Ensures that donors receive appropriate, consistent
recognition and an accounting of the impact that their gift has on community
needs annually.
- Oversee donor-funded initiatives to ensure donor
accountability and commitments are fulfilled by CAN.
- Work with members of the Development Team to recognize
and steward donors as the gifts are received.
- Work closely with Development Director to develop and
implement integrated annual fund development programs, and fundraising
campaigns.
- Coordinate stewardship activities including recognition
events, tours, donor wall, naming opportunities, etc.
- Work closely with Program Team to understand initiatives
where philanthropy can play a role and create fundraising opportunities and
proposals that inspire support.
- Keep abreast of the latest trends and techniques of
charitable giving and become informed about the tax aspects of charitable gifts
and new legislation and revenue rulings affecting such gifts.
- Promote a culture of philanthropy at CAN by working
collaboratively with experts in fields of CANʼs impact areas to support the development
and deepening of relationships with annual gift donors and prospects.
Annual and Mid-Level Giving Administration & Analysis
- Measure and analyze Mid-Level Gifts and Annual Giving
revenue development activities to identify areas for improvement and growth.
- Manage established procedures on Raiserʼs Edge database
for tracking and qualifying prospects and for recording and reporting gifts and
ensure that all communications, contacts, correspondence, and actions are
recorded.
- Maintain integrity of development database by complying
with policies and procedures for data collection and entry systems.
- Provide regular progress reports to the Director of
Development.
- Identify opportunities for cross-promotion between major
gift/leadership giving and annual giving.
- Identify fundraising opportunities to expand and grow
development results.
Operational Planning and Budgeting
- Collaboratively set annual revenue / stewardship goals
and develop an annual work plan with Development Team.
- Contribute to developing a fundraising strategy of
income-generating activities for the major gift and legacy giving program,
drawing on knowledge of fundraising best practices, to meet or surpass revenue
goals.
- Develop and set annual budget (revenue and expense) in
consultation with and approval from the Director of Development while providing
regular forecasts.
- Develop and report on KPIs to monitor progress, modifying
activities as needed to reach target goals.
- Evaluate and provide progress updates to colleagues at
regular meetings.
- Track benchmarks and deliver on goals annually.
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary
degree in related discipline such as fundraising, marketing, business
administration, philanthropy, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in fundraising or comprehensive
relationship building experience and successful track record.
- Strong
knowledge and experience of all aspects of database management; experience with
Raiser’s Edge an asset.

including MS Office, P2P Platforms, Mail Out applications (such as Mail Chimp)
and other fundraising platforms.

- Ability to represent CAN at external events.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills and collaborative
team player.
- A valid BC Driver’s license and own transportation.
