Job Summary:
The Senior Director, Community Investment and Economic Mobility provides strategic vision and leadership regarding United Way’s BIPOC asset building loan and grant funding strategies and leads community engagement with key ecosystem partners in our endeavors to work side by side with community to ensure an equitable future for everyone.
The position has two primary areas of leadership: 1) Serving as the primary liaison between United Way King County and our community lending partners and 2) Developing relationships and thought partnership with key eco-system partners working in the BIPOC asset building and economic mobility space. 3) Working alongside the Sr. Director of Equitable Philanthropy to support grantmaking to key ecosystem partners as part of the 5 year Bridging the Wealth Gap Campaign.
The position is part of the CST leadership team and has an important collaborative, cross-team leadership role, stewarding, advising, and participating in efforts for which they might not be directly responsible. The role utilizes the support of internal United Way of King County resources and external community resources, and the position maintains mutually beneficial relationships with community organizations, philanthropy, board volunteers, and other partners.
Essential Duties:
- Directs the programmatic work of United Way’s BIPOC asset-building strategies and the successful accomplishment of organizational objectives including:
- Program Management:
- Working with Campaign lead and committee on implementing internal program launch timeline.
- Mapping out both internal and external stakeholder involvement in program.
- Coordinating with campaign staff on internal program launch documentation.
- Planning milestones over life of program and develop plans for the guarantee program.
- Tracking alignment and progress with UWKC's theory of change.
- Ability to communicate to UWKC's internal and external stakeholders what the Program is seeking to do, explaining progress.
- Lender Engagement:
- Serving as the primary liaison between Locus on the creation of the Puget Sound Loan Guarantee Pool and the local consultant assisting with the creation of that fund.
- Working alongside consultant during initial fund start up to introduce the program to local lender ecosystem.
- Organizing stakeholder workshops to promote the program locally.
- Regularly in touch with lenders to get feedback to inform adjustments and progress toward theory of change.
- Reporting:
- Internally identifying the reporting criteria.
- Coordinating an internal process and timeline around reporting.
- Operationalizing lender reporting.
- Lead in sharing program learnings with other UWs and potential partners.
- Other Key Duties:
- Participates in Community Services Team leadership and strategic planning.
- Develops ongoing relationships in the community and represents United Way/CST with external collaboratives and coalitions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated understanding of social and racial justice and equity.
- Extensive understanding of community development finance and lending experience.
- Lived experience and/or demonstrated professional skills working within a diverse work environment.
- Successful track record building relationships with a diversity of stakeholders.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree specializing in Business, Finance, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related discipline; and 5-10 years progressively responsible project management experience.
