Title: Youth Programmer
Position Status: Full-Time (days, evenings & weekends)
Compensation: $40,000 - $45,000 per year

About the Role:
This position is an integral component on the delivery of our commitment to youth development within the communities in which we serve. Responsible for oversight and functional expertise in youth advocacy, leadership, partnership, and empowerment. Through collaboration and leadership of program support staff, the Youth Programmer is accountable for championing our YMCA community profile through the facilitation of responsive, meaningful programming in a positive, inclusive, community-oriented environment.
In this role, you will:
- Responsible for development, implementation of child and youth programming, aimed at ages 5 – 18. Develop, promote, implement, and evaluate quality youth programming offered at the YMCA facility or in partnership with local community associations/organizations (i.e. leadership, skills & drills sessions, drop in, wellness, recreation, community support, workshops etc.)
- Manage program administrative tasks to support a safe, positive experience for all participants, volunteers, and families, including registration, maintenance of program statistics, participant information, and other tasks as required to support a smooth, effective program delivery and compliance. Maintain records of program activities, attendance, and individual progress. Complete reports on program success and participant development. Handle the planning and coordination of program logistics, such as transportation, supplies, and scheduling. Assist with budget management and resource allocation for programming. Completion of all Association, program, and national reporting requirements
- Promote programs to local communities to ensure broad participation. Facilitation and delivery of internal and external communications, including responding to program questions, client concerns, preparation of promotional material, and two-way communication with internal departments in aim of supporting program delivery. Work closely with colleagues, parents, and community partners to coordinate and improve programming. Organize special events or community activities that showcase the work and progress of the children and youth involved
- Responsible for ensuring program delivery is in keeping with safety and quality standards, specifically ensuring alignment with Serving All Members (SAM) standards, child safeguarding requirements, consistent staff/volunteer coverage, and insurance requirements. Manage participants behavior in keeping with our YMCA standards and child safeguarding/safety requirements
- Ensure the safety and well-being of children and youth during activities, following all safety protocols and guidelines. Conduct risk assessments for each program or activity and address any hazards or safety concerns. Stay updated on first aid and CPR techniques to handle emergencies, including working as a Manager on Duty in the facility. Implement and enforce rules to maintain a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment
- Ensure modeling and championing of YMCA behavioral standards in regard to professionalism, discretion, behavioural standards, and respectful workplace requirements
- Other duties as required.
Education and Skills Qualifications:
- 1-2 years experience in Community Recreation, Human Services, or a related field
- Experience working with members of the public, including children and vulnerable peoples and diverse communities.
- Strong customer service/sales skills, with demonstrated ability to build relationships and establish rapport with members
- Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
- Experience in fundraising or the nonprofit sector is an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and ability to establish rapport with client
- Demonstrated ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines and priorities
- Strong attention to detail
- Proven track record of success in community-oriented program delivery through establishing collaborative internal and external working relationships/project teams
- Flexibility to work irregular hours required
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
