About the Harambeans Prosperity Fund
The Harambeans Prosperity Fund is a rules-based, co-investment vehicle aimed at accelerating the growth of Harambean-founded ventures and enabling Africa’s prosperity. As of 2024, the Harambeans Prosperity Fund has invested in 15 Harambean led ventures including Max.NG, Shyft, and MarketForce.
Role Description
The Harambe Entrepreneur Alliance is seeking a Prosperity Fund Fellow to manage the rules-based system of the Prosperity Fund and deploy capital into ventures founded by Harambeans across Africa and sectors. You will be working with a lean, agile and high capacity team to manage deal flow and prepare investment memos for the Investment Advisory Committee, while refining the rules and documenting the evolution of our rules based process. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the next chapter of the Harambe Entrepreneur Alliance and enable its future success.
Responsibilities
The volunteer role requires 5-10 hours a week, which includes weekly reporting and working calls.
Internal Administration and Coordination:
Attending All Hands meetings: The Team has 2 main weekly meetings to update each other on the progress of our work and find out how we can support each other. This is usually done via an online conferencing platform so that team members can dial –in. Our All Hands Calls are on Monday and Thursday. You will be expected to attend the Monday All Hands Calls.
Attending Weekly Prosperity Fund Check-In Calls. The Prosperity Fund team has one weekly hour long check-in calls to review applications and their processing. Preparation for these calls is done on Monday.
Assessing Investment Opportunities
Assessing, reviewing and synthesising investment opportunities (Harambeans Prosperity Fund applications) against the Prosperity Fund Rules.
Analysing cap tables to ensure sufficient investment has been made from reputable co-investors. This will include assessing the reputability of the co-investors
Analysing financial information to confirm that the requisite growth metrics have been met
Assessing investment opportunities for impact against the SDG goals
Due Diligence and Deal Execution Support
Executing due diligence analysis on investment opportunities, including collaborating with co-investors where necessary.
Handling correspondence with Prosperity Fund applicants and Co-investors after alignment with the team (e.g clarification of HPF Submissions)
Researching and writing Investment Memos and draft Board Resolutions for presentation to the Investment Committee and Board of Trustees when required.
Marketing the HPF opportunity internally for the benefit of Harambeans.
Provide post-investment support to HPF portfolio companies on a need basis.
Putting together the HPF report.
Thriving Within a Small and Dynamic Team
Collaborating with the Harambe Dream Team to support the objectives of the fund.
Having the initiative and drive to work independently, but seeking input and guidance where necessary.
Attending the periodic (typically weekly) Check-ins with the Harambe Dream Team on the Prosperity Fund to consider new and ongoing applications
Qualifications
Required Core Qualifications
1-2+ years of combined experience in Venture Capital investing, consulting, or other relevant investment or commercial fields.
Graduate of a top college/university, degrees such as an MBA are helpful, but not required.
Technical and analytical expertise, with extensive experience in technology business development, venture capital or executive leadership.
An ability to thrive in an autonomous environment with high levels of ambiguity and self-direction required.
Highly effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Track record of sustained success.
A passion for enabling African success and a fundamental belief in the massive potential that the continent has to offer.
