A non-profit organisation seeks to employ a compassionate and dedicated part-time Clinical Psychologist / Counsellor to provide psychological support to patients undergoing treatment in the clinic, focusing on pre and post-operative counselling. The successful candidate will work closely with the head of the clinic to provide critical psychological care and emotional support to patients, facilitating their journey through medical interventions.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Provide psychological support to patients before and after surgeries, focusing on emotional well-being and coping strategies.
- Assess patients for psychological vulnerability, offering brief-term therapy and, where necessary, referring patients to appropriate community clinics for longer-term support.
- Address referrals for psychologically vulnerable patients, providing up to six sessions of therapy. After six sessions, refer patients to community clinics for further treatment, if needed.
- Provide psychological support, including pre and post-operative counselling, group interventions, and individual psychological support, as deemed necessary.
- Convene and facilitate monthly support group meetings, providing a safe space for patients and families to share experiences and receive support.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Participate in a once-monthly meeting with the Psychological Support Liaison to discuss patient progress, challenges, and any relevant issues.
- Submit a monthly psychological record form detailing the number of patients seen and the specific interventions provided. This report should be forwarded to the Psychological Support Liaison by the last day of each month.
Requirements
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in providing psychological support, preferably in a medical setting.
- Experience in pre and post-operative counselling, brief-term therapy, and working with community clinics for extended care referrals.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, empathy, and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Empathetic, compassionate, and able to build trust with patients.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills to balance clinical and administrative duties.
- Comfortable working in a non-profit environment and managing diverse patient needs.
