Position Summary
KIND seeks a Director, Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting who is a forward-thinking professional with exceptional numerical proficiency, strong technical aptitude, and the ability to manage projects in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment while maintaining the highest level of attention to detail. The incumbent will have a genuine passion for financial analysis, be intellectually curious, self-motivated, and a proactive self-starter. The Director, Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting will maintain and enhance analytical tools to drive KIND’s financial performance and analysis. The incumbent will work closely with department leaders across the organization, coordinating with teams to drive financial analysis, planning and reporting; and providing insight to business leaders to aid in sound decision making. Along with financial planning, analysis, the incumbent will help the team in special projects, policy review and improvements, financial reporting and will work closely with Development and the Senior Director- Finance, Contracts and Compliance on funding proposals and budgets. This position reports to the Senior Director- Finance, Contracts and Compliance.

Essential Functions- Financial Planning, Analysis and Budget
- In coordination with the Senior Director-Finance, Contracts and Compliance, co-leads the process for developing the annual consolidated budget, mid-term budgeting and quarterly forecasting along with long-term projections based on trends, organizational strategy and interaction with cross-functional departments.
- In coordination with the Senior Director-Finance, Contracts and Compliance, co-leads the process for forecasting liquidity and cash flows of the organization.
- Supports the Leadership team in identifying key metrics that tie back to financial performance and sustainability.
- Manages and coordinates the monthly process for variance explanations and internal variance reports.
- Performs ad hoc analysis and financial modellingwhere required to assist in management decision-making.
- Continuously looks for ways to improve processes and streamline budget and forecast cycles.
- Works closely with the Accounting team during month end, summarize performance, and determine how results will impact future forecasts.
- Liaises team members for projects, departmental and office budgets.
- Monitors and coordinates with multiple departments to ensure that administrative policies and budgeting align with the organization’s requirements.
- Researches standards, develops workload measures, evaluates results, and makes recommendations to improve the efficient use and appropriation of KIND’s financial resources.
- Performs analyses of unique problems and developments during the fiscal year to provide budget recommendations, justifications, projections, and/or re-evaluation of budget procedures.
- Aids Finance leadership in interpreting and implementing budgetary policies and procedures in order to ensure compliance with established organizational controls.
- Reconciles budgets to approved budget allocations to ensure monies are distributed in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Identifies and reconciles budgetary discrepancies; monitors approved changes throughout the fiscal year.
- Identifies and interprets sources of relevant data for use in budget formula calculations and comparisons.
- Analyzes current and past budgets, prepares budget requests, and allocates funds following established policies and procedures.
- Analyzes accounting records and transactions to determine financial resources required to implement programs and submits recommendations for budget allocations.
- Reviews internal budgets and transaction summaries for accuracy and rate of spending.
- Leads the preparation of special financial reports including but not limited to the organizational and/or project-level gap analysis.
- In collaboration with the Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting Officer, leads the preparation and coordination of the quarterly financial reporting package.
- Revenue Analysis
- Leads and supervises the Financial Planning & Analysis team who are responsible for compiling and analyzing detailed revenue information for Finance, senior leadership and other KIND stakeholders.
- Monitors revenue, assists in compiling revenue projections for award, office, department, and/or organizational budgets.
- Conducts revenue forecasts analysis, suggests strategies to boost revenue and increases funding as it related to the KIND organizational budget.
- Develops a thorough understanding of KIND’s billing practices for funds received, KIND revenue recognition practices and invoicing methods used by the Accounting team.
- Leads the process for monitoring and preparing internal project status reports on a monthly basis or as needed for program management and leadership; monitoring includes burn rates, labor rates, cost-share, and adherence to approved budget line item.
- Grants Financial Analysis and Reporting
- Leads and supervises the Financial Planning & Analysis team who are responsible for preparing grant pipeline and financial reports.
- In coordination with the Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting Manager, reviews and approves monthly, quarterly, and year-end grant financial reports, prepared by the Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting Officer, ensuring compliance with funder requirements and applicable regulations.
- Monitors grant budgets, track expenditures, and analyze budget variances to inform decision-making and resource allocation.
- Liaises with program and development staff to ensure funds used in accordance with donor intentions or appropriate modifications are requested.
- Ensures that fiscal requirements for grants and contracts are identified, realized, and monitored through regular monitoring meetings.
- Along with the Financial Planning & Analysis team and Awards Management and Compliance team, oversees the financial aspects of the grant closeout processes, including final financial reporting, budget reconciliations and compliance with funder requirements.
- Maintains a working knowledge of laws, regulations, policy, and other requirements that affect grants management, in particular federal grant requirements.
- Management and Other
- Oversees the Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting Officer. Directly supervises the Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting Manager; oversee a Budget Officer and a Financial Analyst in line with KIND’s current expansion plan for the team.
- Participates in and develops training materials related to financial management, financial planning and analysis and budgeting aimed at strengthening KIND’s organizational understanding in these areas.
- Develops and maintains Financial Management, financial planning and analysis and budget materials on the units SharePoint intranet site.
- In coordination with the Senior Director- Finance, Contracts and Compliance, Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting Manager, the Awards Management, Contracts and Compliance Officer and the Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting Officer, develops and monitors units training and communications plan related to financial management, financial planning and analysis and budget.
- In coordination with the Senior Director- Finance, Contracts and Compliance, responsible for researching, documenting, and executing a strategic plan for implementing a cost-effective, efficient financial planning and budgeting software solution that aligns with the organization's requirements and objectives.
- Serves as the training point of contact and subject matter expert in budget and financial management.
Qualifications and Requirements- Graduate degree in accounting, finance or similar field preferred. Advanced Certification such as a CPA, CMA, CFA or similar desired.
- Must be fully fluent in English.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, accounting and revenue analysis of large-scale, international development organizations.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a manager-level or higher capacity in managing donor funded programs, including US government funded programs required.
- Strong accounting and financial analysis skills required.
- Advanced understanding of 2 CFR 200, cost principles and the FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
- Financial management and analysis experience in USG acquisitions (government contracts).
- Experience in developing and maintaining intranet sites (e.g., SharePoint), strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (such as Teams, Excel, etc.).
- Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in our KIND environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment; ability to prioritize tasks and delegate as appropriate.
