Mission: Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
Purpose: The Philanthropy Manager will showcase a daily priority on servant leadership and diversity, equity and inclusion. They are a go-getter and goal-oriented individual. They will collaborate with Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa’s (GSGI’s) Philanthropy team and will play a key role in raising funds for the organization to enhance GSGI’s mission by identifying, cultivating, and securing new corporate sponsors and individual donors. The Philanthropy Manager is a motivated individual with a passion for connecting community supporters with the Girl Scout mission. They will have strong relationship-building skills, an affinity for networking, and a philanthropy mindset with a high emphasis on the donor moves management cycle.
A day in the life… (Essential functions)
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of corporate donors to increase philanthropic support year over year.
- Support the Philanthropy and Marketing and Communications teams in the execution of successful fundraising events.
- Assist in the planning and execution of multiple fundraising initiatives including, but not limited to, the end-of-year annual campaign, staff campaigns, camp campaigns, and seasonal campaigns.
- Responsible for reaching corporate and individual revenue targets and special event sponsorship revenue goals.
- Actively maintain donor database with pertinent information as it relates to the donor moves management cycle.
- Identify and cultivate prospects for major donors and planned gifts.
- Attend chamber and networking events frequently to represent GSGI and make connections.
- Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with community partners and major donors.
- Collaborate with the Philanthropy team to develop policies and procedures which reflect ethical fundraising principles.
- Promote GSGI to donors with effective networking skills and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization.
- Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts, and expenditures.
- Represent the council in the business professional community, including occasional public speaking opportunities.
- Interface with other Girl Scout councils and GSUSA as needed.
- Contribute to Council Initiatives including but not limited to recruitment and product program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The fine print… (Qualifications)
- Associate’s degree required, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years fundraising, or related professional and/or academic experience preferred.
- Must be creative with excellent people, writing and communication skills.
- Must have the ability to work as a leader and as a member of a team.
- Must possess skills necessary to effectively organize, manage, and achieve multiple goals and priorities.
- Sales-minded and goal oriented.
- Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and translate information into actionable strategies.
- Strong attention to detail and proven problem-solving skills.
- Strong customer service orientation and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of fundraising software and technologies, including social media platforms.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekend hours.
- Ability to make decisions and drive a development campaign.
- Strong computer skills including MS Office products.

- Generally, climate-controlled office conditions.
- Frequent travel around the Des Moines metro and some travel (10%) within the council.
- Some remote work possible for the right candidate after a 90-day review period.
