The development manager at Catholic Charities is responsible for finding, cultivating, educating and soliciting major, medium level and recurring donors. The development manager researches potential donors, generates promising leads, cultivates relationships and secures long-term financial partners. The development manager also assists in cultivating and educating current donors to secure more significant gifts, is responsible for planning and coordinating all fundraising events and coordinates all donation drives for the agency. The position will interface with multiple other departments and programs of Catholic Charities and the public.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Database and Reporting Management
- Oversee the processing of mail, batching contributions in Raiser’s Edge and donation reconciliation with accounting.
- Manage the process to receive, track, process, distribute and acknowledge in-kind and cash donations.
- Serve as system administrator for assigned development event, email, text and fundraising platforms, including best practices and maintaining clean data:
- Manage imports to and from Raiser’s Edge for all communication needs.
- Prepare Net Communities segmented, template electronic communications and solicitations utilizing agency branded graphics and messaging.
- Manage communication segments in Raiser’s Edge, email and text databases.
- Provide back-up data-entry for Raiser’s Edge.
- Pro-actively analyze data to support strategies to increase donor giving and identify major donor prospects:
- Use Raiser’s Edge to identify lapsed donors and donors who have the potential to give more significant gifts.
- Assist in scheduling donor meetings and provide background information to the development or executive director for the prospect meeting.
- Serve on team to develop and maintain the department’s tech-stack strategy.
Relationship Management
- Maintain positive ongoing relationships with key cash and in-kind donors.
- Manage, expand and solicit a portfolio of annual donors and sustaining donors.
- Work with team to develop a process to track progress on finding, cultivating and soliciting new donors, as well as, cultivating and soliciting current/annual donors.
Event Management and Analysis
- Serve as the project manager for development events, collaborating with staff and volunteers to ensure tasks are completed for:
- Annual fund-a-mission event
- Two to three small donor engagement or outreach events
In-kind donation drives
- Gather feedback from stakeholders and prepare a comparative analysis of the financial success of fundraising events.
- Use feedback and data to plan and adjust future activities accordingly.
In-Kind Donation Strategy
- Develop and implement a sustainable strategy to cultivate in-kind donors into cash donors in collaboration with the team.
- Coordinate partner communication with marketing and development staff.
- Oversee the in-kind donation process, including outreach, scheduling gift drop-offs, receipting, acknowledgments, organization, and ministry pick-ups.
- Support efforts to increase donations during periods of greatest need and implement the in-kind donation lead generation plan.
Fundraising & Communications
- Identify and solicit event and program sponsorships.
- Participate in and help create new stewardship strategies to retain new and lapsed donors.
- Manage the lapsed donor and Christmas appeals process and plan.
- Write acknowledgments, correspondence, reports and other communications, as needed.
- Manage stewardship strategies to retain new and lapsed donors to achieve financial and stewardship goals.
- Recruit, expand and manage third-party fundraisers per organizational brand guidelines.
- Contribute ideas to create annual fundraising strategies to meet agency funding needs.
General
- Collaborate with staff, volunteers and donors to develop and maintain a strategic perspective — based on marketplace and constituent needs.
- Implement policies to ensure the integrity of Catholic Charities development department’s work and ensure donor trust.
- Train and support qualified development volunteers and interns.
- Equip and enable volunteers and staff to perform responsibilities in a way that reflects Catholic Charities’ values, vision and direction through modeling and coaching.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Undergraduate college degree required.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in sales, development, event planning and using fundraising software.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Outstanding partner relationship management skills with a focus on providing a positive experience. Excellent word processing and spreadsheet database skills including ability to create, build and generate reports. Strong organizational, writing and speaking skills to work with staff, volunteers and public. Ability to manage and prioritize time, materials and expenses to optimize the resources available. Must be detail oriented with the ability to apply logic and discretion while handling multiple priorities.

Continual communication with staff and external contacts to provide, obtain, or discover information, advise, present or persuade.
